Kim Dong-In, Chun Young-Taek and Choo Yo-Han of the 'Changjo Group' Who let the modern literature set root of this country have all studied abroad in Japan in 1910s. Learning new knowledge in Tokyo, Japan, from boyhood until youth age, they were baptized with the modern Japanese culture which had been pursuing toward westernization since Meiji-Innovation.
Their pursuit of literature was achieved under these conditions and surroundings, and the literary works which they had mainly read were modern Japanese Literature and Western Literature translated into Japanese Language.
Those literary works they read during the period of literary apprenticeship have influenced on their literary works in a way or another.
Accordingly, this means that the literature of the'Changjo Group' has been influenced by Japanese as well as Western Literature.
Those influences are noticed especially in the following exapmles:
Firstly, by anlayzing elaborately "Baetaragi" (1921) of Kim Dong-In, we can find, that the point of view and plot is quite similar to that of "Unmeironsha" (1902) of Kunikita Topbo. This means that the technique of novel-writing of Kunikita has had influence on that of Kim Dong-In.
Secondly, if we analyze "Idiot or Jenius"(1919) of Chun Young-taek, we know that the setting of character, tile processing of plot and the point of view etc, are very similar to "Spring Bird, Harunotori"(1904) of Kunikita. This again means that Chun Young-Taek was unconsciously influenced by Kunikita during reading his novels.
Thirdly, the early day's poems of Choo Yo-Han such as "Fire Play, Bulnori" show resemblance of French Poems translated into Japanese, in its rhythm, setting of talker etc. This shows that Choo Yo-Han learned the techniques of it engaging in favorite reading of French poems in Japanese, which denotes his receiving of a kind of influence In the early days of the literature of the 'Changjo Group', the influence of modern Japanese literature was remarkable.
We are able to know that modern Japanese Literature since Meiji-Innovation has greatly influenced the formation of modern Korean Literature if we consider that the 'Changjo Group' of Korean Literature has contributed to set its root of modern literature in this country.
