The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship with Toegye, which is recorded in 『Seoaejip』, and especially to examine characters with whom Seoae had associated while supervising the issue of 『Toegyejip』, through a research on publication of 『Toegyejip』, which has not been discussed so far. As known well, as Seoae is Toegye's best pupil, he is a person who had played a pivotal role in literary and political circles in the middle years of Joseon. There is no doubt that he was greatly influenced by Toegye, who is a teacher, in a sense that he wisely got over Imjinwaeran(壬辰倭亂-Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592), and that he criticized unorthodox contradiction and evil practices by grasping the core of Yangmyeonghak(陽明學), which is newly introduced from China at that time. Nevertheless, as being come down to future generation, Toegye's academic context came to be led to a controversy about who did orthodoxically transmitted, centering on Wolcheon(月川) Jomok(趙穆) and Hakbong(鶴峯) Kim Seong-il(金誠一).
However, as a result of examining about the publication of 『Toegyejip』, there was no friction or dispute among three persons at that time. And, only the one aspect of a solid combination could be considered in the issue of the teacher's prose collection. Furthermore, in issuing prose collection, Seoae was under the presidency and collectively supervised. And, given examining the contents that were recorded in 『Seoaejip』, Seoae asks a number of persons for advisory aiming at the publication of 『Toegyejip』. First of all, there are Jo Mok, Nam Chi-ri, U Gyeong-seon, and Kim Seong-il as Toegye's pupils, and are Kim Hong-mi and Jeong Geyong-se as Seoae's pupils. And, there is Lee Ho-in as other person. Here, Seoae discussed the most with Jo Mok as Toegye's pupil, and Kim Hong-mi as Seoae's pupil.
This study could examine the image of a pupil who is agonized while requesting advisory in order to issue the teacher's prose collection. This is the result that is melted the affection between teacher and pupil and a role of Seoae. However, as being handed down to the future generation, Seoae(西厓) and Hakbong(鶴峯) formed the mainstream. Thus, the deep awakening will need to be made in a sense that caused the result of bisection while being confronted with Andong and Yean regionally, and Byeongsan Seowon and Hogye Seowon in Confucian school.
