The existing White Porcelain Water Dropper was manufactured in the late Joseon Dynasty, which helps us to understand the current trend. This paper aims to examine the features of the 18th and 19th centuries by examining the fashion background and shape of the White Porcelain Water Dropper in the late Joseon Dynasty.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, the population and economy of Hanyang grew and commerce developed, thus further developing urban culture. During the late Joseon period, the number of White Porcelains would have been frequent and the number of people who could use the White Porcelain water dropper would have increased significantly due to brisk foreign imports and market distribution.
The observation of things theory(觀物論) theyve been talking about since the 17th century has led to the prevalence of potteries of various deformities and colorful patterns that are combined with the tastes of consumers. In the works of painters in the late Joseon Dynasty, works reflecting the passion and hobby of collecting Ko Dong So Hwas collection offer a glimpse into these tastes. The collection fever for the finished product is also illustrated by records of the four masters who had waited to complete the product in Gwan-yo(官窯) to own the White Porcelain water dropper.
There are not many artifacts in the late Joseon period that can confirm the absolute time of nature, and it is difficult to distinguish the exact production time. Therefore, we will take a look at the prior research in the field of potty history and the approaches to social, economic and historical research in the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty. The period of the work was divided into two periods, the 18th century (1701-1800) and the 19th century (1801-1883), to identify the trend and characteristics of the White Porcelain water dropper.
The 18th century white water dropper was allowed to SaBun(私燔) in the 23 years of King Sukjongs reign(1697). From then on, there would have been a significant increase in the number of layers that could use the Gwan-yo(官窯) white porcelain. The middle class, including the citys merchants and low-ranking officials, would also have actively consumed the Gwan-yo white porcelain. Due to the pictorials from China in the late Joseon Dynasty, Sosang-palgyeongmun (瀟湘八景紋) and Gil-Sangmun (吉祥紋), symbolizing the blessing, began to appear in Joseon white porcelain. Similar to the curved wooden furniture attached to the White Porcelain water dropper produced during this period, it can be seen that various artifacts from the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty shared detailed
In the 19th century White Porcelain water dropper, Yeon-wonjigji, a circulation chart of Kim Kyungsun (1788 ~ 1853), Koreans are familiar with the things used for stationer.. This section shows that the Gwan-Yo White Porcelain water dropper of Joseon, which was made similar to the Qing Dynastys rivals imported to Joseon, was sold in the market. The white porcelain water dropper was mixed with a writing-brush rack(筆架) and a stroke of the brush(筆洗), or a memorable date was written on it. As a result, it was found that White Porcelain water dropper reflecting personal taste was produced.
