This study attempted to examine the effects of treatment using synthetic and natural hair dye on human hair so as to determine how much hair may be damaged in the course of chemical hair-dyeing treatment. It also applied different treatment methods and different number of dyeing and decoloration. The extent of resulting damages was determined in statistical manner through questionnaire survey for objective assessment. As a result, it was discovered that the more number of hair-dyeing treatments had a tendency to the stronger damaging effects of synthetic and natural hair dye on human hair. Although there were somewhat differences in the extent of damage depending on type of hair-dyeing treatment, the result of questionnaire survey showed that many respondents reported‘little or a little difference in the extent of damage' depending upon the number of hair-dyeing treatment. In the level of damaging effect, natural hair dye group scored 0.7 and synthetic hair dye group scored 0.95 on average, which means that the former has lower damaging effects than the latter. Hair-dyeing treatment with increasing number of decoloration showed that the more number of decoloration had a tendency to the stronger damaging effects of synthetic and natural hair dye. With regard to the difference in the extent of hair damage, it was notable that many respondents reported‘a little difference in the extent of damage.' As time passed by, more respondents reported that the more number of decoloration had a tendency to the more difference in the extent of damage. In the level of damaging effect, natural hair dye group scored 0.5 and synthetic hair dye group scored 0.65 on average, which also means that the former has lower damaging effects than the latter. Moreover, the results of iterative hair-dyeing and decoloration treatment showed that the more number of chemical treatment led to the stronger damaging effects. In the level of damaging effect, natural hair dye group scored 0.65 and synthetic hair dye group scored 0.75 on average, which also means that the former has lower damaging effects than the latter. In conclusion, depending on the type of hair-dye used in each treatment, there are differences in the severity of damage to the hair. This study aims to provide the necessary information with regards to improving hair-dye and decreasing the severity of damage done to hair by the different types of hair-dye. Furthermore, as an increase in the number of hair-dying treatments intensifies the severity of damage imposed, research for the contrivance of a treatment that can revitalize the damaged hair is needed. In addition, studies on lowering the pH level of hair-dye (because alkali contributes to the damaging of the hair) and on the substances of natural hair-dye as well as synthetic hair-dye, which can lessen the level of damage, are crucially needed
