The total education expenditure rate out of the gross domestic production in Korea is the highest one among the 30 OECD member countries. Not long ago, infant education in Korea was regarded as education for a special class. Recently, however, the early education boom has brought about the necessity of infant education naturally but suddenly.
The purpose of this study is to propose, in the light of the idea of alternative education, the possibility of online education, the new media for the next generation education, to solve systematic problems in private education markets out of the current school education.
This study will explore useful measures to help reduce the crisis of our school education through the cases of online education contents as a form of alternative education. It will also examine domestic or international types for educational contents models in private education markets.
In addition, this study will examine how the current educational contents have been developed, and how the existing alternative educational models have been changed and developed, which will be done by practical evaluation of infant and children education contents proposed as target models.
The methods of this study involve literature reviews and the writer’s participation in the cognitive study research where a language project was developed and applied as a practical model data for alternative education. In addition, existing research materials using cultural and technological methods and interviews with relevant people of education will be used.
The surveying method focused on the study of educational sociology, and the already developed language educational contents for infants and children were used for the cases of the online education. In order to prove the possibility of the online education as an alternative education and also prove the eligibility of education effects, theoretical concepts of the alternative education and online education were used for basic materials. Attempting to accept the characteristics and goals of the practical alternative education as they are, a questionnaire survey was conducted targeting students’ parents in the field in order to figure out the possibility of complementing and reinforcing the learning ability and effects. The structure of the thesis is as follows:
Instruction will examine the reality of the current formal school education and the crisis of public education, and also examine the private education boom and its adversary effects. Chapter 2 ‘Previous researches and references’ mention the background and status of various alternative education that appeared in private education markets along with the crisis of public education, and furthermore, and discussed its prospect and tasks.
In ‘Remote education through online’, the difference and similarity of remote education sharing the same goals with the alternative education are discussed, and the possibility of online education as an alternative education is proposed.
In chapter 3 ‘Online education as an alternative education’, the concept, types, characteristics and limitation of the online education as a form of remote education are reviewed through domestic and international status. In chapter 4 ‘Cases and evaluation of online education contents for infants and children’, the online education contents of language for infants and children were evaluated and the possibility of the alternative education and its improvement were proposed through the FGI survey.
It is notable that the online education provides the autonomous learning environment where students enhance their learning effects by evaluating themselves, complementing what they learned and re-evaluating themselves. If online education contents with the quantitative and qualitative increase are used in appropriate ways, private education expenditure will be reduced and no concern is required for extracurricular classes. In addition, the importance of this study was to propose that the online education has sufficient reasons to become a model of an alternative education in the form and contents of the reinforced and desirable online education for infants and children.
