The main purpose of this study is to explore how to elementary school using teacher's informal organization and to examine informal organization effect on the school management. For this, this study investigates teachers' informal organization. For this purpose, research subjects were established as follows.
1. What is the sorts of informal organization which teachers join and what is the degree of necessity, participation, and satisfaction?
2. What is the purpose of their joining the informal organization and what does it influence of school management.
3. What is the method of effective control of informal organization and what is the positive function and negative function of informal organization.
For the fulfillment of the above purpose, both documentary method by literatures and survey technique by questionnaires were conducted. Measurement instruments used for this were made out by the present researcher and modified under the major professor's guidance. The questionnaires were presented to 360 primary school teachers who were sampled-cluster in Jun-buk districts. The data collected form 310 respondents were analyzed by the percentage, x^2-test, and contingency coefficient.
In this study, the results are presented as follows:
1. A lot of teachers in the elementary schools join the informal organization spontaneously, and feel them necessary. On the contrary, the manager group tends to show a negative attitude toward them. However study for informal organizations helps members to keep their emotional stability because they offer communicational channel and union.
2. Informal organizations which teachers join them a lot are a friendship organization, a same-aged organization, and a mutual financing organization.
3. Positive functions of the informal organization in term of school management improve human relations and strengthen the cooperative relations. They also make their members' emotional stability increase and they inactivate communication channels among members of school. However the negative function is the possibility of making factions (66.8%). Therefore, the manager group should try to decrease the negative function and to increase the positive function of the informal organizations.
4. Many teachers think that communication channel at the level of formal organization is more effective and gives more reliable information than informal one. Though the informal organization, so to speak, is not a good means of good communication channel, it is necessary to communicate each other smoothly through informal organizations. Because communication channel of the informal organization compliments stiffness and formality of the formal organization.
5. Teachers think if school managers give the same informal group members the chance to work together, efficiency will be increased. Because they tend to have a good human relationship when they work together. Many teachers decrease their frustration by means of the personal contacts with their colleagues and manager. Teachers think critical barriers to build up a good human relation are the lack of the communication opportunity, undemocratic, and self-righteous school administration.
6. There is no need to control the informal organization. The effective way of controlling is to cooperate with the laeder of informal organization.
On the basis of the above research findings, the present researcher could conclude as follows:
1. The establish of informal organization is necessary and teachers join them for their personal improvement. For this reason, informal organization must have a mutual relationship with colleagues.
2. Communication in organization try to be made smooth and the purpose of informal organization try to be accorded to the purpose of informal organization.
3. When the manager is undemocratic and self-righteous at work, informal organization give it influence. There must be a consideration to the head leader of informal organization in a way of influence power.
4. It is not necessary to control of informal organization. They have to get help of representative to control and he must join to make a decision. For this reason, the leader of informal organization has to be considered by managers and managers need to convert their mind about informal organization. The managers must persue the raised productivity of school administration through the members' active attendance and unification by opening and activating instead of controlling for the informal organizations.
5. For the good human relationship in schools, it is the best way for the managers to encourage teachers' activity at informal groups and to give teachers more opportunities to exchange their opinions one another and to manage their school democratic way.
