인터넷 게임 중독 예방을 위한 자기 통제력 강화 방안 연구 : 탐구공동체 독서토론을 중심으로 = A study on the enhanced plan to self-control for preventing internet game addiction : based on reading discussion in the community of inquiry
Today, Korea is operating the world's best national backbone computer network. The average internet use hours per week are 13.3 hours, and informatization remains the top in the world. Almost all people daily use internet.
In particular, the internet usage rate of generations of youth, who will lead Korean society, is more than 90% which outruns the rate of other generations. With the increasing and expanding internet use of teenagers, internet side effects and adverse effects have become social issues. One of the adverse effects that severely damages adolescents is internet game addiction.
In the circumstance where internet game addiction greatly threatens not only daily lives of Korean adolescents, but their future lives, this study is intended for finding an improvement plan.
These days, internet game addiction prevents adolescents from enjoying normal school life, and to make it worse, is the main culprit of their deviant behavior. Korean adolescents get stressed out much by their family in terms of school achievement and career issue. Such stress lets adolescents choose internet game as an escape from reality. Remaining in the condition is related to school achievement. Students who have poor achievements make a decision to do something unthinkable.
Up to now, previous studies on internet game mainly focused on personal aspects of adolescents or students and performed psychological approach. The studies simply suggested treatment methods by analyzing the causes of the process of internet game addiction, environmental factors of internet game addiction, and applying counseling technique.
However, such approach has a lot of limitation in responding to internet game addiction of students. In other words, it is not related to students' school life and school learning that account most for their living. There is few research on effective prevention and treatment based on school living and learning activities in order to cope with internet side effects and adverse effects.
For the reason, this researcher judged that it is desirable to take preventive measures before adolescents reach their addiction to internet game. In addition, it was considered that in the case of addiction, it is better to apply official curriculum and teaching and learning method in normal school circumstances, instead of providing therapeutic treatment. Therefore, it was recognized that a more effective way is to help students learn sound thinking by themselves and develop their ethical judgment, especially their self-control of desire and impulse or control enhancement.
In Korean educational environments, school competition becomes fierce and teaching method tends to be teaching by rote as school education go higher from primary education to secondary education. In the conditions, it is hard to draw the effect of psychological approach to students' personal issues. Therefore, it is inevitable to improve educational environments and learning methods in which students are able to control themselves at their will.
The purpose of this study is to find an alternative to improve the educational environments, and to look into the importance of school education. As a method to improve school education based on teaching by rote, it is necessary to perform the education of philosophical thinking for adolescents, including 'moral inquiry' and 'ethical introspection'. Therefore, this researcher recognizes that the introduction of cooperative learning based reading discussion helps to prevent internet game addiction of adolescents.
As important factors of addiction process, there are impulsivity control and self-control. The factors have something to do with adolescents. That is because the place in which students spend most of their time is school. Therefore, if they learn how to control impulsivity naturally and grow self-control in normal school life, it will be helpful to prevent greatly internet game addition which is a severe social issue. In the process of reading discussion, students will have self-directed learning by listening to discussion participants and making a presentation.
The reading discussion-based class using community of inquiry, suggested in this study, will be able to improve desire control factors, such as critical thinking, caring thinking, and cooperative learning ability. In other words, to create the discussion environment and accomplish smooth discussion in the space of reading discussion participants, it is required to take into account critical thinking and caring thinking in various circumstances that occur in the discussion process. In this aspect, critical thinking and caring thinking can be learned in the process. In addition, such process can give students an opportunity to take some time for introspection.
The reading discussion-based class using community of inquiry can be viewed as the start point of cooperative learning. That is because discussion participants can approach new knowledge in their mutual discussion process. Acquisition of new knowledge is not made only by 'my' effort. The new knowledge is preciously obtained in the way of exchanging opinions of reading discussion participants. And the precious knowledge helps students improve self-directed learning and develop themselves. Such knowledge piled up little by little will gather like a snowball, will double up students' desire for achievements and thereby will keep them away from internet game.
To apply the contents described earlier to practical education, this researcher designed learning model of inquiry community. The learning model is aimed at showing the process that students learn the factors affecting their impulsive desire control through the reading discussion of inquiry community and thereby develop the ability to prevent internet game addiction.
With the rapid changes and the short cycle of changes, people are now required to get themselves adapted to such environments. Without adaptation, they are expected to fall behind in society.
To put it simple, people need to choose essential information by analyzing a massive amount of information and create a unique and useful knowledge value lest they fall behind in the massive flow of changes. Accordingly, it is necessary to change a type of education in line with the flow.
It is needed to satisfy the basic prerequisite of education, which is 'to create students' mind-set, and the social need, which is 'to help students prepare for their social life'. Therefore, school should take charge of not only curriculum education, but personality education (whole-person education) and living education.
The learning education of reading discussion based inquiry community is not aimed at making students obtain new knowledge simply just as general knowledge education. The education through inquiry community learning begins with students' interest and participation and is intended for drawing a particular outcome.
The school education that lays stress on answers requires students to focus on memorization. That deprives students who need curiosities and questions about objects of 'moral inquiry' and 'ethical introspection', and eventually of marvelous views of objects. The fast change in society requires the rapid change of students. As a result, students' way of pursuing and thinking also changes. To deal with the change, students pursue something new and particular. However, in reality, education fails to meet students' desire and thereby internet game immersion occurs. To solve the problem of the separation of the ideal and the real, it is necessary to perform inquiry community learning in class along with the current trends. With the change in school education, it is expected to produce fundamental preventive effect on adolescents' internet game addition which is the biggest social issue these days.
