협동게임이 아동의 친 사회적 행동 상호작용에 미치는 영향 = Effects of cooperative games on the prosocial behavior interactions of young children

본 연구는 아동들의 친 사회적 행동 상호작용을 증진하기 위한 협동 게임을 선정하고 그 효과를 밝혀내는데 목적을 두고 협동 게임이 어린이들의 긍정적인 신체적 접촉 및 언어적 접촉을 증진시키는가를 살펴보았다.
이를 위하여 D초등학교 1학년 31명을 대상으로 용이한 정보 수집을 위해 신체 활동 면에서 적극적, 보통, 소극적인 아동을 각각 2명씩 선정하여 관찰하였고, 교사 인터뷰는 D초등학교 1학년을 담임하고 협동 게임을 실시한 교직 경력 13년의 교사 연구자인 본인을 대상으로 동료 참고인에 의해 이루어졌다.
긍정적 및 부정적인 언어적·신체적 접촉과 목적관련 협동 행동을 기록하기 위한 친 사회적 행동 상호작용 체크리스를 작성하고 16개의 협동 게임 내용을 선정하여 6주 동안 30분씩 1주에 4번씩의 예비 연구를 실시한 결과 협동 게임은 아동의 친 사회적 행동 상호작용에 영향을 미친다는 결과를 얻었다.
양적인 정보 수집은 9주 동안 30분씩 1주에 4번씩 협동 게임을 실시하고 녹화하여 친 사회적 행동 상호작용 체크리스트에 의해 관찰·기록하였다. 수집된 자료 처리에는 기술적 분석과 빈도 히스토그램이 사용되었다. 질적인 정보는 현장 관찰과 교사 인터뷰를 실시하고 게임 요소와 관련하여 상호작용의 특성, 수준, 정도 등을 보다 기술적으로 분석하는데 사용하였다.
이러한 과정으로 협동 게임이 아동의 친 사회적 행동 상호작용에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 신체 접촉 및 언어 접촉은 행동 양식에 따라 다소 차이는 있으나 게임 실시 초기보다 후기에 긍정적인 상호작용이 증가한 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 부정적인 신체적 접촉 및 언어적 접촉은 초기에도 낮은 범위를 나타냈고, 후기에는 더욱 낮게 나타났다. 이는 긍정적인 상호작용의 증가를 보여주는 결과로 볼 수 있다.
셋째, 목적 관련 협동 행동은 다른 행동 범주보다 높은 빈도를 나타냈고 또한 게임 실시 후기에는 초기에 비해 높은 증가를 보였다. 이는 아동들이 협동 게임 내용을 잘 이해하고 즐겁게 참여하였다고 사료된다.
넷째, 현장 관찰 및 교사 인터뷰 내용을 분석한 결과 '후프 통과하기'에 참여하는 아동들은 게임의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 신체적·언어적으로 다른 사람을 돕는 긍정적인 상호작용을 보여 주었다. 이러한 관찰 결과는 이 외에도 4개의 게임 즉, '나도 도우미', '어부', '큰 거북이', '협동 음악 의자' 등에서 긍정적인 언어 접촉 및 신체 접촉이 증가한 것으로 나타났다.
다섯째, '짝짓기'와 '눈보라' 두 게임은 어린이들의 친 사회적 행동 상호작용에 한정적인 영향을 미친 대표적인 게임으로 어려운 일에 쉽게 포기하거나 리더하는 일에 아직은 어려움이 있는 저학년 어린이들의 특성을 보여 준 것으로 보여진다.
교사 인터뷰를 통하여 협동 게임을 실시하면서 어린이들은 '나' 보다는 '우리'가 되어 게임의 목적을 성취하기 위해 참여하기를 좋아하고 부정적인 행동이 감소되고 긍정적인 상호작용이 증진되었음을 알 수 있었다.
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which cooperative games promote prosocial behavior interactions of young children, specifically, to determine the extent to which cooperative games promote positive physical contacts and positive verbal interactions.
Among the first graders of 31 Daeshin Elementary School children, two children who were either positive, average, or negative in physical activity levels were selected and observed. I, as an action researcher, took the role of primary investigator in this study. I was in charge of the first graders and taught cooperative games. I was interviewed extensively by a peer debriefer. She was in her 13th years of teaching elementary school children.
Prosocial behavior interaction checklists were prepared to record positive and negative physical contacts and verbal comments and goal-related cooperative behavior. A pilot study comprising of sixteen cooperative games was done. The pilot study of four 30-minute sessions per week lasted for six weeks. The results of the pilot study indicated that cooperative games influenced prosocial behavior interactions of the first graders positively.
Nine weeks of data collection included four sessions of 30-minute cooperative game lessons per week for quantitative data. All 36 sessions were taught by a licensed teacher who was majoring physical education in the graduate school of teacher education. The lessons were videotaped and recorded by using prosocial behavior interaction checklists. A trained observer watched six children using a recurring 30-second time sampling per child.
Quantitative data were collected to show the incidence of specific behavioral interactions for each child. Qualitative research methods (i.e., field observation of game participants and teacher interviews) were used to provide a more descriptive analysis of the relationship between game factors and the resulting types and levels of behavior interactions for the game participants.
The results of this study indicated that effects of cooperative games on the prosocial behavior interactions of young children as follows:
First, positive interactions have significantly increased at the end of the nine week sessions both in physical contacts and verbal contacts than the earlier sessions of this study.
Second, the incidence of negative physical contacts and negative verbal comments was low from the beginning and even less at the end of the 36 sessions. This appears to be the results of increased positive interactions among children.
Third, a more goal-related behavior was observed than other behavior categories and was also increased significantly during the later sessions of the study. This means that the children in this study became to understand the content of cooperative games and enjoy the participating in cooperative games.
Fourth, the analysis of the field observation and teacher interview indicated that children who participated in "Hula Hoop Circle" showed positive interactions by helping each other to achieve the goal of the game in addition to physical contacts and verbal comments. Besides, "Big Turtle", "Cooperative Musical Chairs", and "Fish Gobbler" were also effective in increasing prosocial behavior interactions among children.
In "Blizzard" and "Partners" children in this study were limited in their positive interaction with other children. They appeared to have problems in overcoming difficulties and taking the role of leaders as is the case with low graders.
In sum, it appears that, after participating in cooperative games, they have changed from "I" perspective to "We" perspective to achieve the goal of the game and the incidence of negative behavior had been significantly decreased and that of positive behavior interaction had been significantly increased.
