해방공간의 김광주 소설에 나타난 섹슈얼리티 연구 = A Study on the Sexuality of Kim Gwang-Ju's Novels in Liberation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objects of this study is short stories of Kim, Gwang-Ju, which have been overlooked in the study of the modern history of Korean novels. It aims to investigate the literary embodiment of the sexuality of a female subject in Liberation. The works of Kim, Gwang-Ju, which were published around the period of the independence were analyzed. It included 「Chastity」, 「Love Affair, the one hundred chapter」, 「A side of Cheong-Gye-Cheon」, 「The terminal sketch」 and 「The bad night」. The common elements of the novels of Kim, Gwang-Ju published in those days were that it actively presents the female subject. In other words, there is no otherness appeared in the female subject. In addition, compared to the cognition of the physical body of the female subjects before and after those days, it was completely open minded and emphasized the economical effects of the physical body. The author did not negatively describe the female subject's cognition of the physical body and the change of character and paid aesthetic arrangement for more objective prospect. It is the rhetorical character of his work. The result of these aesthetic cognition was presented through various ways. The actual author either appeared in the work as a character and actively performed the rhetorical power or took a certain distance as implied author. Or the author did not appear in the work at all and actively presented the cognition of the physical body of the female subject. While the author revealed the social prejudice against the female body and the internal fallacy and made a travesty of it, he also treated the economic efficiency of the body in the daily life with a healthful view. His work takes a distance from the typical rhetoric which is obsessed with the female body and desire it as a form of romantic love or sexual instinct which is the combination of the passion of body and the spirit. Women estimate the value of their bodies according to whether or not it is productive, in other words, women value their body by the economical efficiency of it. And they are positioned as an ascendant subject who own the ability of hold decision making and concentration. In addition, the female subjects break the existing moll of thinking based on a masculine ideology and compose psychological bond with same gender. Jealousy is not a priority of women any more. Embellishment is most important for economical efficiency.
The result of the analysis exhibits the efforts to position women as the subject through the physical body of them in the turbulent period. Shortly, subalternation is presented on the novels of Kim, Gwang-Ju. It possesses a meaning as women are being embodied as the subject of obtaining the social strategy to survive in a capitalism society by economical principle of productivity or unprodutivity but not by discussions in a private or a public area. It means that Korean society of those days were making a progress of moving forward to a more opened society in which the psychological limits caused by the oppression of the system did not exist. However, the subjectivity strategy for women through the female physical body became subordinated to the masculine ideology after the war. The war took a negative role of regressing the society into a manly society.
Kim, Gwang-Ju's novels reveal that the author actually participated in the society as an intellect and criticized the society. Nonetheless, aesthetic description of the superiority of women must have come to nothing in the manly society with strong political power. That is why Kim, Gwang-Ju must be reconsidered as an author.
