<쌍주기연>의 보조인물 고찰

Ssangjugiyeon is a work that can be classified as a heroic novel or a ki-bong type(dramatic meeting between a man and woman) novel, which contains the story where a male character and female character form an alliance on the ground through a magic stone that is given by the sky, become separated soon after, overcomes each of their
difficulties, and finally gather with all family members. The main storyline of classical novels is normally formed based on the main characters, however, this work uses various assistant characters in addition to the main characters, resulting in attaining a dramatic effect.
First, the story creates a conflict by using confrontation between an evil assistant character and good assistant character, and in the end, the good that protects the traditional values of loyalty, filial piety, and fidelity prevails. Rather than placing the evildoer against the main character, the assistant characters were divided into good and bad, so that the characters would fight against the subjects in contrast with each, and the story clearly displayed the theme of didactic morality through the victory of the good characters in this fight. During this
process, the evil assistant characters regret their faults and become incorporated into the order of the world pursued by the main character, which can be the lesson of the story. The story by which an ordinary assistant character makes efforts to pursue good despite of bearing difficulties has become a realistic model for readers.
Second, the story uses the assistant characters, in addition to the main characters, to play an independent role in the development of the case. Because the assistant characters play a leading role, it was possible to add a realistic feel to the hero’s capabilities, to more realistically depict the alliance between the male and female characters, and to
procure the probability of the narrative process. As a result, readers could meet with characters with various personalities by escaping the form possessed by main characters in classic novels.
Third, an entertaining element has been added to the work by granting a comical function to certain assistant characters. Humorous expressions do not appear at all when the main story of the main characters unfold, however, once this situation ends, a comment by the assistant characters satirizing motif relating to the main character
appears. This element allows readers to feel another type of fun through a method of alleviating tension without damaging the dignity of the main character.
