Today a furniture is something that adds convemence to human lives and needs to be beautiful. A furniture is made from various materia ls and composed of numerou s components whose respective roles are cruc ial in the completion of the handiwork called 'furniture' . As you see , each component has their value of existence in their ' functioning roles ' more than anything else. Among the components, there is one whose design is emphasized no less than its function, a handle. Along with the development in the furniture design , handle design has changed ever since. From crass s imple metallic handles, it has developed and showed a great potentia l of vers atility by being combined with many sort of materials. and now it has come to the time it spearheads the furniture design over the realm of being an appealing point. So a handle has become the crucial
element which controls the overall furniture image. claiming its variation and individuality. The furniture industry is one that is typically oriented toward domestic consumption and therefore rea lly susceptible to economic conditions. The most short-lived component of the furniture with such peculiarity is a furniture handle. Under such condition, excepting a few major maker s, most handle makers that share their lot with furniture makers and that has limited resources cannot even think of th e research and development for furniture hand les. It is a rea son why it is an item th at is highl y burdensome for a maker to develop a new product . and why it is with many ca se s of pira cy damaging the original dev eloper s. An average lifespan for a product of handl e is G months at the longes t. hardly las ting for a season. Th e part of g rav ity th at handles claim in the furniture has increa sed. Its grav ity in th e cost has more than tripl ed. Therefore, now it is the tim e th at they find away of lowering the production cost by both s implifying the production line and motivating the positi ve will of developing design ers of met allic cra ftsmanship, rath er than having them s tick to simple plagiarism of ideas. Nowadays. handles with ju st simple funct ion ar e on the declin e. but the objec ts of cra ft work which maximi ze the ae st het ic sens e by using various elements are emerging as the main stream, while increasing their value by also giving cons iderations to their ergo nomics. It is true th at we are at the s tage for metalli c craftsmen should be involved in the e ffort. The study aimed to add the functionalit y and ornamenta lity to a furniture by using met allic elements and sugges t a theoreti cal background and a formati ve frame for the use of met allic elements in th e con tempora ry furni ture design. while ana lyzing the kind and the type of the met allic materi als that are often used. th e ways of making the most of their use in the furniture design. also pointing to the problems by ana lyzing their funct ions and designs. and sugges ting a direction for the development of met allic handles.
