『용비어천가약본(約本)』에 대한 연구 = A Study on the Summary Text of Yongbieocheon-ga

The Summary Text of Yongbieocheon-ga revised in Pungpaegwan(龍飛御天歌豊沛館改撰約本, 約本) was published by Han Jun-gyeom(韓浚謙), Governor in Hamgyeong Province in the era when the 15th King Gwanghaegun(光海君) reigned. The Summary Text was published because of the following three reasons: ①Because, Han Jun-gyeom could experience how the founders of the country lived their lives, during he stayed in Hamheung(咸興) ②Because, he was interested in Yongbieocheon-ga including stories of Hamgyeong Province, as part of a bid to improve practices in his area. and ③Because, the republication of Yongbieocheon-ga was made in the royal palace during King Gwanghaegun reigned. The Summary Text takes on the two characteristics. This text was firstly published based on historical recordings about the four late kings(四祖), and in a even broader sense, this text came to be published to the effect of ringing an alarm and wake-up call to the subsequent kings. Firstly, allowing that the Summary Text was published in order to highlight Hamgyeong Province, the birthplace of the Joseon Dynasty, it can be cited that all the traces that the late kings went through in the province were recorded in the text. Also, given that Jurchens(女眞) began to expand their territory in northen part of Joseon, at that time, Han Jun-gyeom might probably have to be very careful so that public sentiments could be undisturbed, and in this regard, he was expected to assert local officials and ordinary people on how important the recording of late kings and the status of Hamgyeong Province are. Another characteristic of the Summary Text is also correlated to the historical background at that time. Han Jun-gyeom might perceive that the humiliation from Japanese Invasion(壬辰倭亂), resulted from the fact that succeeding kings failed to abide by advice from Chapters of Mu-mang(毋忘) meaning Don`t forget in Yongbieocheon-ga that Succeeding kings must nor forget about a series of ordeals that late kings underwent. At that time when Jurchens were on the eve of intrusion, the possibility is great that such advice might impress Han, too much. Thus, it is deemed that Han would be impressed by the contents in Chapters of Mu-mang so as to add a majority of meanings of ringing an alarm and wake-up call, in the Summary Text.
