인구구조 변화가 경제성장에 미치는 효과: VARX 모형을 이용한 한국(1987～2017) 사례 분석

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 저출산 · 고령화 등의 인구구조 변화가 경제성장에 미치는 직 · 간접적 영향을 분석하기 위해 1987～2017년의 국내 데이터를 이용하여 VARX 모형을 추정하였다. 인구구조 변화는 노동력뿐만 아니라 경제 내 다양한 부문의 파급효과를 통해 경제성장에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 간접적 관계를 고려하기 위하여 거시변수들 사이의 내생성 및 인구구조변수의 외생적 관계를 반영한 VARX 모형을 구축하였다. 특히, 인구구조 효과를 반영하기 위해 총부양비뿐만 아니라 유소년인구 비중 및 고령인구 비중을 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 고령화 및 총부양비의 증가는 직접적으로 경제성장에 음(-)의 영향을 미쳤다. 그뿐만 아니라 고령화는 생산성을 저하하고, 물가상승률을 상승시키는 등의 파급효과가 발견되었다. 특히, 고령화는 투자위축 및 예비적 저축 증가 등 금융시장에도 부정적인 영향을 미쳐 경제성장을 더 저해하는 등 간접적으로도 경제성장에 악영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study estimated the VARX model for Korea(1987～2017) to analyze the direct and indirect effects of changes in population structure such as low birth rate and aging population on economic growth. Demographic changes can affect economic growth through the spread effects of various sectors within the economy as well as the workforce structure change. In order to consider these indirect relationships, this study developed a VARX model that reflected the relationship between macro-variables and their reaction to demographic variables. As a result, the aging population and the increase in total dependency ratio directly hindered economic growth. Furthermore, the aging population has been found to have a spread effect such as reducing productivity, increasing inflation by changing demand structures. In particular, the aging population has a negative impact on the financial market, such as investment, further hurting economic growth.
