This study was conducted to develop a livestock circulation model by comparing compost production, compost treatment type, and utilization rate according to the livestock circulation type of Hanwoo farms. Hanwoo farm types were classified into five types: farmland area, certification type, breeding area, feed, and mixed farming. Amount of compost production was high in organic livestock certification farms with high feed supply and by-product feed feeding farms. The amount of compost production by certification type was 3,088 kg/LSU for PGA-certified farms and 2,566 kg/LSU for organically certified farms. The compost production amount by feed type was 3,118 kg/LSU for byproduct feed farms and 2,566 kg/LSU for organic feed farms. The self-use amount of compost was high in large and middle-sized farms at 2,398 kg/LSU and 1,844 kg/LSU, respectively, and was high in farms feeding by-product feed at 2,706 kg/LSU and in farms feeding organic feed at 1,832 kg/LSU. In the mixed farming type of Hanwoo, the self-use amount of compost was high in Hanwoo + horticultural crops and Hanwoo + forages crops mixed farms at 2,412 kg/LSU and 2,244 kg/LSU, respectively. The local farm use amount of compost was high in small-scale farmland area farms at 1,725 kg/LSU. It was high in Hanwoo farm without farmland at 1,940 kg/LSU, and there was a tendency for Hanwoo + rice and Hanwoo + pasture mixed farms to be high at 886 kg/LSU and 781 kg/LSU, respectively. The Off-site use of compost was high in small-scale farmland farms at 291 kg/LSU. The self-use rate of compost by mixed farming type was 92, 86, and 81% for Hanwoo + horticulture, Hanwoo + feed crops, and Hanwoo + feed - rice mixed farms, respectively. Hanwoo + pasture, Hanwoo + rice mixed farms also showed a higher rate of 62 and 60% than farms that only raise Hanwoo without farmland, and compost is mainly used for horticultural crop cultivation and feed crop production. The local use rate of compost was high at 70% in lower-level farms with small farmland areas and 83% in farms that only raised Hanwoo without farmland. The Off-site use rate of compost was high or tended to be high at 12% and 4%, respectively, in medium and small-scale farmland farms. Organic livestock and PGA certified farms that pursue sustainable livestock farming through ecology and resource circulation and feed by-products have high compost production and a large area of farmland, and mixed farming that uses compost for horticulture, forage crops, and rice cultivation has a high self-circulation rate of compost, making it possible to sustainably raise Hanwoo cattle through livestock circulation.
