Studies on the Vegetation Recovery and Slope Stability in Landslide Restoration Area

This study analyzed the landslide that occurred in the region of Goi-ri, Jinkyo-myun, Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, and the results of analyzing whether or not the vegetation was recovered through vegetation characteristics analysis of the landslide restored area in which a structure has been constructed and whether or not slopes have become stabilized through a program are as follow.
1. Typhoon 'Maegi' brought a rainfall in the amount of 47mm in an hour on August 18, 2004, and a torrential downpour in the amount of 166mm occurred in one day became the cause for a landslide.
2. A rainfall in the amount of 451mm came down during the August of 2004 when the landslide occurred, and, since there was no second damage in spite of the rainfall in the amount of 546mm, it can be considered that the structure constructed on the restored area or the vegetation were effective in stabilizing the slope.
3. For the original foundation (prior to the occurrence of landslide), its horizontal distance measured was 143.7m and its height was 279.1m, and, for the current foundation (after the restoration from landslide), its horizontal distance was 143.7m and its height was 276.3m. The mean height difference of the location of the constructed structure revealed to be 2.9m.
4. In the chemical characteristics of the soil, it was analyzed that the soil pH was 4.7~4.9 and the rate of electric conduction was 115.8~129.3dS/m. The soil organism of the entire area of research was 2.94~5.47%, Total-N content was 0.95~1.88% and cation substitution quantity was 7.48~10.49cmol+/kg. The exchange cation contents were revealed in the order of Ca2+>K+>Mg2+>Na+. They were revealed to be lower than the mean value of Korea, and more disadvantageous in vegetation growth compared to the soil of surrounding area.
5. The result of growth rate analysis revealed that the second year growth was relatively fewer, which confirmed the slow down of rooting from the transplant shock, and it can be considered that the slop is stabilizing as the growth rates of third and fourth year gradually increase.
6. The result of paired-sample t-test revealed a level of significance in 0.05% as it showed the value of 0.047 in the second and third target areas, displaying a difference among mean values. There was not a significant different in the first and second target areas, as the value for the first and second target areas was 0.931 and the first and third target areas was 0.104.
7. There were total of 13 family, 18 genus, 24 species, 5 variety of vegetations in the surrounding area of the target area, and there were total of 12 family, 15 genus, 17 species, 4 variety of vegetations that invaded the target area. It can be noted that the most of the invaded vegetations are similar to the surround vegetations.
8. In the I.V. of the first and third target areas, Pinus thunbergii revealed to have the highest value followed by Pueraria thunbergiana, Smilax china, etc. In the second target area, Pinus thunbergii once again revealed to have the highest value followed by Pueraria thunbergiana, Lespedeza bicolor, etc.
9. The speciesdiversity (H') of the target area revealed to be 0.440∼0.702, and the evenness (J') revealed to be 0.630∼0.778, and the dominance (1-J') revealed to be 0.222∼0.371. The first and second target areas had more species and numbers compared to the third target area, and they can be considered to be changing to a relatively stable structure as the speciesdiversity and the evenness were revealed to be also high.
10. Since it can be said that the communities are dissimilar when the similarity is lower than 0.2 and they are similar when it is higher than 0.8, the target areas can be said to have similar structures are the similarity of the target areas revealed to be 0.667∼0.818. The similarity between the target areas and the surrounding soil revealed to be 0.359∼0.667.
11. The factor of safety for A area in which a structure has been constructed was 2.67 in dry season and 2.10 in rainy period, and the factor of safety for B area in which a structure has not been constructed was 2.49 in dry season and 1.60 in rainy period. The structure had an influence on the stability of slope, as the factor of safety for A area with a constructed structure revealed to be higher.
12. The difference of factor of safety between A and B areas in dry season was 0.18 and 0.50 in rainy period revealing a greater difference in rainy period. Since the probability of slope activity occurrence is high in rainy period, a structured should be constructed to assure stable factor of safety.
Therefore, it was revealed that constructing a structure increases the factor of safety, and the growth of Pinus thunbergii has a positive effective on slope stability as times goes on and does not obstruct the growth of vegetations that influence the slope stability.
