This study examined Baeksuk`s journey in Korea and his travel poems that were published after his emigrant to Manchuria, which have studied by few scholars. The orientation of his poems is a world that is full of the fairy tales and of the peace, but it is a world that he couldn`t go back in the time of the Japanese Colonial Period in Korea. Under this tragic situation he just traveled across Korea to see the new ways and to find his utopia. He wrote the compilation of travel poems in the mean time. By showing a new aspect of the traveling poet this compilation have a different form and content that is unlike <a deer>, his earlier poems focusing on the hometown. Apparently, there are many poems that described the landscape which he found in his journey as a traveler. Most of the poems, however, reflected his personal feeling about a certain place, depicted it in an objective and temperate way and contained his tragic point of view that is similar to an unrequited lover. Furthermore, he attempted to seek a whole new way beyond the objective point of view and the double-layered space that was consisted of the corrupted reality around him and the Japanese Colonial Period. During his emigration to Manchuria, his works suggests the feelings of grief and of the destiny with a submission to leave Seoul. Although the internal sentiment of those poems is generally his solitude, the sentiment also includes a strong and tender will to overcome the situation. That is to say that Backus`s life in Manchuria was a sublimated space from the feeling of the forfeit as a foreigner, and an arche-space that sublimated the sorrow and the longing occurred during his vagabondage. Through this vagabondage around Manchuria, he did not only rediscover himself in the life of the folks of Manchuria, but could poetize the suffering and pain from the reality. Baeksuk couldn`t overcome the desperation, the cruel situation around him, and the misfortune to live in the time of the Japanese Colonial Period, and in consequence that made him to emigrate to Manchuria. By this study, nevertheless, I suggest that he was the poet with a clear sense of his mother tongue and a historical consciousness.
