한서 남궁 억(韓西 南宮 檍)의 민족운동에 대한 고찰 = Study on the Han Su, Namgung Eock's Activities for the National Movement for Independence

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Han Su, Namgung Eock (1863∼1939) participated in Korean Independence Association and published the newspaper Whang Sung in order to strengthen the national power for the protection of the national sovereignty and enlightenment of the people aganist the invasion of foreign imperialism since the late 19th century. He also lived his whole life as a leader of national movement who founded the school, especially wrote the history texts, and employed himself in teaching the students.
His patriotic activities in the press and education were summarized as follows in terms of Korean movement for independence.
First, it was not until the national emotion expands into an ideology that the national movement for independence was developed. However, his activities in the press and the education were only limited in the enlightening bounds to educate the people and to encourage the patrictism.
Second, his national movement developed into the opposition to the colonial aggression of foreign power and in direction of the antifedalistic social reform, so his activities were not active in the respect of meeting the democracy and the nationalism which is vital and futureoriented.
Third, christian Han Su, Namgung Eock who pursued the repentance and love based on the christian faith adopted the method of reconsideration of national history itself and peaceful movement. Therefore, it was natural result that his activities of national movement for independence were focused on the education and enlightenment for the future development.
Han Su, Namgung Eock was one of christian national leaders in the late Lee dynasty. IN those days there were Buddhist or christian among the national leaders who were eager for the formation of modernized democratic nation. In contrast with the confucism rullers of the Lee dynasty those who suppressed the religion, their scope of thought was expanded and they tended to think problems of indivisual and nation from the more fundamental point of view. The appearance of those leaders who have the above mentioned view of the world and the life was one of the new phenomena resulted from the efforts for the overcoming the traditional society.
