세종의 스펙트럼 리더십에 관한 연구 = A Study on King Sejong’s Spectrum Leadership

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 세종의 인생철학과 위대한 업적들을 스펙트럼 리더십의 관점에서 거시적이며 통합적으로 분석하기 위해 리더십의 7가지 구성요소인 환경분석, 혁신전략, 위기관리, 커뮤니케이션, 인사조직, 고객감동, 자기계발 요인을 중심으로 연구가 진행되었으며, 주요한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 세종은 역경을 딛고 권좌에 올랐고, 임금이 된 이후에는 훈민정음을 창제함으로써 일류국가의 초석을 놓았으며 법치보다는 덕치를 선호했지만 백성들을 착취하는 부패한 관료들에 대해서는 엄단하였다. 둘째, 그는 경청의 달인이었고 독단적인 의사결정을 경계하며 순리를 중시했을 뿐만 아니라 우수인재 영입에 혼신의 힘을 다했다. 또한 스스로 모범적인 삶을 실천함으로써 국가권력의 응집력을 강화했고 창조적인 문제해결 능력을 중시했으며, 임금에게 충성하는 자들에 대해서는 합리적으로 보상함으로써 충성을 이끌어냈다. 셋째, 세종은 신하들의 고충과 배고픈 백성과 전염병 관리에 만전을 기했다. 아울러 정이 넘치는 인간적인 면모를 갖추었고 죄인을 판결함에 있어서도 엄격한 법치 못지않게 민심의 동향을 예의주시하였다. 이 외에도 차를 마시며 교제하는 것을 즐겼고, 매사냥과 온천욕 등의 여가활동을 중시하며 심신의 피로회복과 재충전의 시간을 보내는 데도 심혈을 기울였다.

This study analyzed Sejong's life philosophy and great achievements in terms of a macro and integrated standpoint from the perspective of spectrum leadership, and the main findings are as follows. First, King Sejong was born as the third son of King Taejong and rose to power against all hardships; once he became the king, he laid the foundation for a first-rate nation by creating the Hunminjeongum, Korean language, and although he preferred virtue to the rule of law, he was strict against corrupt officials who exploited the people. Second, he was a good listener: he was wary of arbitrary decisions, and valued pure reason. He also focused on recruiting talented people, even appointing Jang Young-sil, a former vassal. He also strengthened organizational cohesion by leading an exemplary life himself, esteemed creative problem-solving skills, and rewarded those who remained loyal to the king by remunetaing them reasonably. Third, King Sejong was attentive to his subjects' grievances, famine, and plagues. In addition, he was a humane person, and in judging criminals, he was as attentive to the public opinion as he followed strict to the law. Besides this, he also enjoyed socializing over tea; falconry; and bathing in hot springs, where he spent time recuperating his body and mind from fatigue.
