The purpose of this study was to contribute to establish and improve the guidelines for life style management and educational policy that would help students solve the problems they encounter and concerns regarding sex and also to develop educational programs that would support students to obtain proper knowledge about sex and to establish healthy point of view on the opposite gender and to develop abilities as healthy members of the sociey.
In order to carry out this purpose, the general attitude toward sex was investigated. Secondly, how much information the students had on the subject and by which method they were acquired were studid. Thirdly, what were the experience of the students regarding sex and what were the problems that they had were asked. Finally, students were asked of their opinions on the sex education in the past and the future.
All 579 students participated in the study. The questionnaire that was used in this study was made after reviewing previous studies on students' knowledge on sex and their attitude, and problems and concerns regarding sex. Then, this questionnaire was sent through pre-test in order to be revised and reconstructed to be finally used in this study. This final version of the questionnaire was consisted of 29 categories that includes general information of the students(5 categories), attitudes toward sex (8 categories), knowledge concerning sex (5 categories), experience and problems regarding sex (7 categories), and sex education (4 categories).
Data analysis was processed by SPSS/PC+ and the frequencies and percentages were calculated for each categories.
The result of the study was as follows.
(1) Attitude toward sex: generally, students grew up in conservative environment and had similar attitudes toward sex with their peers. Concerning the chastity of female gender, the tendency was that 'chastity should be kept" in contrast with 'it depends on the circumstances' regarding the chastity of male gender. Also, sex before marriage was more likely to be concerned as 'it is possible if they love each other'
(2) Knowledge concerning sex: it was considered as average level by the students. The students tended to answer 'know much' as the academical year went up. Most of the students answered that they have acquired these knowledge through 'friend' and 'adult video and popular magazines'. What the students wanted to know most about sex was 'techniques of sexual intercourse' and 'anatomical normality of the sexual body organs'.
(3) Experience and problem regarding sex: 'serious caressing' was the most frequent answer as a standard to sexual behavior along with 'Controlling by ethic and moral value' when asked what to do in times of sexual urges. Similar response were shown between 'no experience' and 'had experience actual intercourse' when asked about sexual experience. It was also frequent to answer 'no problem if you are in love' when asked about the sexual partner.
(4) Sex education: it was more likely that male students did not have any sex education then female students. It was thought that sex edication in the universities were necessary. And the students preferred 'small size lecture classes or discussions' as a method of sex education.
