서울과 농촌지역 靑少年의 成長·發達에 관한 硏究 : 7歲부터 18歲까지 = The Study on the physical growth and development of boys and girls in Seoul and Rural area

The objectives of this study were to study on physical statistics of boys and girls accordance with their physical structure, physical and nutrition indeces, fat amount based on the data obtained from researches on physiques of boys and girls in their respective age groups.
For this purpose the writer surveyed the height, weight, chest girth, sitting height of 25,703 boys and 26,107 girls of age group raginh from 7 to 18 of age, living Seoul and Rufal areas. The total 51,900 persons were randomly selected and measured.
The conclusions of this study were as follows:
1. Physical Growth and Development
Body Height - As they grow boys in Seoul and Rural area gained rapid growth of height from 7age to 16 age group and girls until 15age group.
Generally speaking, the body height of both sexes in Seoul was bigger than through- out all age groups that of boys and girls in Rural area.
In general, male height exceeded that of female; however between 10-12 age group average height for the both sexes statistic interchanged in Seoul, and between 11-12 age group the height for the both sexes interchaned in Rural area.
Body Weight - As they grow old boys of both area gained rapid growth of body weight from 7age group to 16 age group and girls in both areas from 7age group to 15age group.
Generally speaking, the body weight of male and female in Seoul were bigger than that of them in Rural area.
In 11-13 age group of Seoul average weight for the both sexes interchaned and in 11-13 age group in Rural area the weight for the both sexes interchanged.
Chest Girth - Boys of both area achieved almost linear development in their chest girth till they reached age of 16 and girls of both area until age of 15.
In general, the chest girth of boys and girls of Seoul were bigger than that of them in Rural area. Interchanging of chest girth in both sexes occured between 12-13 age group in Seoul and 11-14 age group in Rural area.
Sitting Height - Boys of both area achieved almost linear development in their chest girth till they reached age of 17 and girls of both area until age of 15.
The sitting height of boys and girls in Seoul were generally bigger than that of boys and girls in Rural area.
Interchanging of sitting height in both sexes occured in 10-13 age group in Seoul and 11-13 age group in Rural area.
2. Physical and Nutritional Indices
Relative body weight - Relative body weight of boys and girls steadily increased and reached 35 point except that of girl of 18age group in Seoul.
Relative chest girth - Relative chest girth of boy in both area reacged normal chest pattern in 16 age group but that of girl of Seoul in 13 age group reached normal pattern and girl of Rural area in 14 age group.
Relative sitting height - In general, Relative sitting heights of boy and girl maintained indices of 52-55.
Rohrer index - In 12-13 age group the Rohrer index of boy showed to maintain the minimum points and girls in 11 age group, but after that stage the index gradually increased.
Kaup index - Kaup index of boy in both area showed a tendency of maintaining normal index points in 16 age group and that of girl in 15 age group.
Vervaeck index - From 7 to 18 age group, Vervaeck index of boy and girl demonstrated a shortage of 90 normal points but the index gradually increased with age. Pelidisi index - The Pelidisi index of boy and girl in both area showed a shortage of 100 points only except that of girl of Rural area in 18 age group.
3. The Quantify of Fat through the method of measurement of physical body
From 7 to 18age group, the amount of body fat of boy and girl showed a tendency of increase with age.
In general the amount of body fat of girls was bigger than that of boys, and the amount of body fat of boy and girl in Seoul was greater than that of them in Rural area.
