제이슨 무어의 경제학 비판: 체계 이론 관점에서 해석하는 가치와 에너지, 질서의 관계 = Jason Moore’s Critique of Economics: The Relationship Between Value, Energy, and Order from a Systems Theory Perspective

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 제이슨 무어가 제기하는 사회와 환경의 ‘이중 내부성’ 개념의 성찰을 통해 기존의 사회과학이 갖고 있는 체계 이론의 한계를 지적하며, 이를 통해 마르크스가 주장하는 체계의 재생산과 더불어 그 역사·제도적 조건으로서 자본주의 서술의 이중화의 필요성을 확인한다. 특히 경제 이론이 세계 상태들과 행위자들의 지향을 완전한 상태 공간으로 가정하면서 체계의 내부성만을 설명하는 한계를 확인하고, 이를 넘어서는 계기로서 무어가 논의하는 사회와 자연의 이중 내부성을 두 구조적 질서의 느슨한 접속의 체계로 해석한다. 19세기에 내적 체계성을 온전히 구축하게 되는 물리학과 경제학이 에너지와 가치라는 개념을 통해 어떻게 자연의 물질대사를 인간적이며 화폐적인 등가물로서 번역하는가를 고찰하는 것이 핵심적내용이 된다. 자연과학과 경제학은 각각이 다루는 대상계를 체계로서 환원해 설명하는 특수성을 공유하는바, 에너지와 가치의 개념은 물질의 실증적 증명을 체계성으로 대체하면서 서로를 상호 구축했다. 이러한 설명은 무어가 말하는 자연의 저렴한 것들이 전유 · 착취되는 과정의 기능적 함수, 혹은 번역의 체계를 메타한 수준에서 그려 내고자 함이다. 더불어 엔트로피로서 에너지의 흐름을 질서로 서술함에 따라 자본주의나 사회라는 개념적 전제 없이 자기-조직화하는 체계와 그 체계가 의존하는 환경의 구조, 그리고 양자를 포괄하는 자연 전체를 구분할 수 있다. 우리는제이슨 무어의 경제학 비판　 355 무한한 에너지로 가득한 노이즈에서 질서를 흡수하는 체계 내부에 있는 것이 아니라 구조를 갖는 질서에서 질서를 흡수하는 자기-조직화 체계의 임의적 내부에서이를 관찰하는바, 내부의 질서로서 유입되는 질서의 네겐트로피가 외부 환경에 미치는 영향을 온전히 번역하거나 등가 교환할 수 없다. 그러한 에너지 실체의 미결정된 임의의 교환으로 초래된 전체 자연의 열화가 무어가 논의하는 자본세라는 질문이다.

This paper critically examines Jason Moore’s concept of the “double interiority” of society and nature to highlight the limitations inherent in contemporary systems theory as applied to the social sciences. It argues for the necessity of a dualized framework that incorporates Marx’s historical-institutional analysis alongside the reproduction of capitalist systems.
Specifically, it critiques the inability of conventional economic theory to address the external dynamics of social system, which are often constrained to analyzing only the internal configurations of actors and their orientations within a predefined state space. In this context, Moore's discussion of double interiority—conceiving society and nature as interlinked yet distinct structural orders—provides an opportunity to transcend these limitations.
The central focus of this analysis is on how 19th-century developments in physics and economics contributed to the systematic internalization of both fields, translating the material metabolism of nature into human and monetary equivalents through the concepts of energy and value. Both the natural sciences and economics exhibit a shared tendency to reduce the complex systems they study into abstract, closed systems. Within this framework, the concepts of energy and value are mutually constitutive, each replacing empirical material phenomena with system-based representations. This paper further explores the functional function or system of translation of the process by which nature's “cheap things” are appropriated and exploited.
Moreover, by framing energy flow in terms of entropy and order, we are 제이슨 무어의 경제학 비판　 357 able to distinguish between self-organizing systems, the structural environment that sustains them, and the broader natural system that encompasses both. This analysis avoids the conceptual assumptions rooted in capitalist society, enabling a perspective that situates these processes beyond the internal dynamics of systems absorbing order from infinite, energy-laden noise. Instead, it examines a self-organizing system, which absorbs order from structures with order, from the position of arbitrary interior, suggesting that the negentropic flow of order within the system cannot be directly translated or equivalently exchanged with the external environment. The degradation of nature resulting from the unregulated and arbitrary exchange of energy within this system is central to the “capitalocene” Moore addresses in his critique.
