베트남 결혼이주여성을 형상화한 소설의 독서 경험을 통한 대학원생의 다문화 인식 변화 연구 = A Study on Changes in Multicultural Awareness among Graduate Students Through the Reading Experience of Novels Embodying Vietnamese Marriage Immigrant Women

국문 초록 (Abstract)

목적 본 연구의 목적은 베트남 결혼이주여성을 형상화한 소설의 독서 경험을 통해 대학원생의 다문화 인식의 변화를 살펴봄으로써 대학원생들에게 베트남 결혼이주여성을 형상화한 소설의 독서 경험이 다문화 인식의 함양과 개선에 효과가 있는지 탐색하는 데 있다.
방법 수도권 G 대학원에서 다문화교육학 전공 대학원생 6명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 연구 참여자들의 독서 경험을 위해 도서 선정 기준을 정하고 선정 기준에 따라 4권의 도서를 선정하였다, 4권의 소설을 4회차로 나누어 읽고, 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(FGI)를 진행하였다. 인터뷰 자료는 독서 경험 전, 독서 경험 중의 변화 과정, 독서 경험 후의 다문화 인식에 대하여 각각의 하위범주를 세분화하여 분석하였다.
결과 독서 경험 전의 연구 참여자들의 베트남 결혼이주여성들에 관한 생각은 생활력이 강한 어린 신부의 고정관념을 가지고 있었으며, 베트남 결혼이주여성들이 겪는 어려움에 대한 이해도 피상적인 양상을 보였다. 그러나 독서 경험을 통해 회차가 거듭될수록 연구 참여자들은 소설에 형상화된 문제점들을 발견하고, 다문화 인식이 변화하기 시작했다. 독서 경험 후에 연구 참여자들은 베트남 결혼이주여성을 우리 사회의 구성원으로 인식하며, 단순한 피해자가 아닌 적극적인 행위자로 바라보게 되었으며, 베트남 결혼이주여성을 형상화할 때 부정적 이미지가 고착되고 있는 것에 대한 우려에서 대안까지 마련하게 되었다. 또한, 연구 참여자들의 다문화적 인식은 베트남 결혼이주여성뿐만이 아니라 저소득 빈곤 계층, 사회적 약자들, 이주노동자까지 확대되었다. 본 연구는 연구 참여자들은 다양한 관점의 공유와 메타적 성찰을 통해 다문화 인식이 함양되었으며, 독서 경험이 다문화 인식 개선에 효과적임을 확인할 수 있었다.
결론 본 연구는 베트남 결혼이주여성을 형상화한 소설을 통한 독서 경험이 대학원생들의 다문화 인식에 긍정적인 변화를 가져왔음을 보여주었으며, 본 연구에서 진행된 독서 경험은 사회적 독서의 의미를 지닌다. 이러한 사회적 독서를 성인을 대상으로 교육에 활용하면, 성인들의 다문화 인식을 함양하고 개선하는 데 기여할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in graduate students' multicultural awareness through the reading experience of a novel embodying Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage, and to ex plore whether the reading experience of a novel embodying Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage is effective in fostering and improving multicultural awareness in adults.
Methods Six graduate students majoring in multicultural education at a university in the metropolitan area were selected as research participants. For the reading experience of the research participants, book selection criteria were established, and four books were selected according to the selection criteria. The four novels were read in four sessions, and focus group interviews (FGIs) were conducted. The interview data were analyzed by subdivid ing each subcategory into the changes before and during the reading experience, and the multicultural awareness after the reading experience.
Results Before the reading experience, the research participants’ thoughts on Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage had a stereotype of young brides with strong vitality, and their understanding of the difficulties experienced by Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage was also superficial. However, as the reading experience continued, the research participants discovered the problems embodying in the novel, and their multi cultural awareness began to change. After the reading experience, the research participants recognized Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage as members of our society, and viewed them as active actors rather than simple victims. They also came to prepare alternatives out of concern about the negative image that was being fixed when embodying Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage. In addition, the research par ticipants’ multicultural awareness expanded not only to Vietnamese immigrant women through marriage, but also to low-income poor classes, socially disadvantaged people, and migrant workers. The research participants fos tered multicultural awareness through sharing various perspectives and meta-reflection, and it was confirmed that the reading experience was effective in improving multicultural awareness.
Conclusions This study showed that the reading experience through a novel embodying Vietnamese immigrant women brought about positive changes in graduate students' multicultural awareness, and the reading experience conducted in this study has the meaning of social reading. If this social reading is utilized in education for adults, it will contribute to fostering and improving adults' multicultural awareness.
