임진왜란기 藥圃 鄭琢의 活動에 대한 고찰 = A Review of the Role of Jeongtak in the Imjin War

Jeongtak was a civil official who served in King Myeongjong(明宗) and worked in King Seonjo(宣祖). He is well known for saving Yi Sun-shin(李舜臣) from the brink of death, who was dismissed from the Samdosu Military Control Command(三道水軍節度使). Although he served as an important government official for 45 years, his research on Yi Sun-shin was greatly emphasized. When Imjin war broke out in 1592, he paid his respects to his ancestors. Later, when King Seonjo decided to join the group, Jeongtak, who was a director of the Crown Prince Gangwon, served Gwanghaegun(光海君) and played an important role in the group. In a recent study, his activities during the Imran period have been reevaluated through data related to the Imjin War left by Jeongtak.
During the Imjin war, Jeongtak played an important role in Bunjo(分朝) and Mugunsa(撫軍司). The division played a role in minimizing the administrative vacuum caused by the war and preventing public sentiment from deviating. In addition, the Bunjo examined Pyongyang’s enemy and reported it to the administrative office, and sought ways to create righteous army and defeat the Japanese army. Within Bunjo, Jeongtak was a experienced politician and a teacher of Sesa, which was a great support for Gwanghaegun. Jeongtak complemented Gwanghaegun’s success in leading the division by taking care of wartime administration, writing documents, and the health of the crown prince within the division. After that, Jeongtak performed military activities by supplementing Gwanghaegun County under the order of King Seonjo. He trained warriors in Hoseo and Honam areas to prepare for Japanese invasion, and in Hongju, he opened a market to rescue the people.
One of the most notable roles of Jeongtak was that he played an important role in the identification of Chosin(朝臣). In the studies so far, it was mainly emphasized that Yi Sun-sin and Kim Deok-ryeong requested the new construction of Musin(武臣) and Uibyeongjang(義兵將). However, Jeongtak requested the identification of the ancestors involved in the Kichukoksa Temple, and also requested the identification of Lee San-hae(李山海), who had been dismissed due to the responsibility of Pacheon. Lee Sanhae was dismissed as a responsibility theory that he abandoned the capital city and went to Pacheon, and Jeong-tak demanded his identity because he could not only ask Lee San-hae for the sins of Pacheon. This demand by Jeongtak served as an important opportunity for Lee San-hae, the leader of the North, to return to politics. He helped his ancestors lead the political situation stably in a time of war. He also strongly expressed his opinion on sensitive political issues, preventing unfair deaths.
