As a key factor to economic and social development, creativity can be considered as an important valuable wealth of each country. Improving students' creativity is an inevitable requirement of modern education, and cultivating creative persons is one of the most important aims of college education. Creative writing, firstly appeared in 1936 as a college course at the University of Iowa in the United States, has trained a large number of creative talents by exploring students' creative potential, instructing students to recognize and express themselves fluently and flexibly, helping them form original creative thinking ways and stimulating their creativity. It has a history of more than 80 years in Western countries, while in China it just came into being less than 20 years ago. However, the problems, such as inefficient teaching methods and lack of creativity, exist in English writing teaching of Chinese colleges. Therefore, it is necessary to study on English creative writing and reform innovative on Chinese college English writing teaching.
In this study, English creative writing was studied as the endogenous variable, and through analysing previous researches, creative teaching behavior was studied as the exogenous variable, creative self-efficacy and English writing self-efficacy were studied as the mediated variables, and further by these four variables the research model and two competing models were set up and examined with structural equation modeling method. The aims of this study were firstly to validate the structural relationships among the four variables; secondly, to investigate the difference of structural relationships between English major students and non-English major students. The research data were collected from 478 students from three universities in China and analyzed by SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 25.0. Firstly, the final research model was selected by confirmatory factor analysis. Secondly, the structural relationships among the four variables were validated by path analysis. Lastly the differences of structural relationships between English majors and non-English majors were examined by multi-group analysis.
The following results were found. Firstly, creative teaching behavior had significantly direct effect and indirect effect by English writing self-efficacy on English creative writing. Creative self-efficacy did not directly affect English creative writing significantly while English writing self-efficacy had a significant direct effect on English creative writing. Secondly, in general there was little difference of the structural relationships between non-English majors and English majors. However, significant difference in the effect of creative self-efficacy on English creative writing was found out. For non-English majors, creative self-efficacy had a significant direct effect on English creative writing while for English majors the significant effect was not testified. According to these results, some inspirations could be presented. Firstly, in terms of research methods, the relationship among these four variables can be validated by the research method of structural equation modeling, and the differences in structure relationships between groups can be examined by multiple-group analysis effectively. Secondly, in English creative writing instruction, the effects of teacher's creative teaching behavior, an important environment factor, and creative self-efficacy and English writing self-efficacy on English creative writing are clarified. College English teachers are suggested to strengthen their strategic awareness of creative teaching behavior and pay more attention to students' creative self-efficacy and English writing self-efficacy.
Finally, for future research the following suggestions were put forward. Firstly, only one exogenous variable creative teaching behavior and two mediated variables creative self-efficacy and English writing self-efficacy were examined in this study while in future studies other factors that may have an effect on English creative writing could be analyzed. Secondly, 'major' was be chosen as the moderated variable for multiple-group analysis in this study while other factors, such as English academic achievement, could also be considered in future. Thirdly, the research methods of questionnaire survey and structural equation modeling were used in this study while in future, in order to examine the effect of teacher's creative teaching behavior on students' English creative writing, the experimental investigation research method could be considered to be used by carrying out instructional experiment on teachers' creative teaching behavior in their teaching practice of English creative writing on college English classes.
