감각과 정보 경험 구조화를 통한 문화취약계층 전시 접근성 향상 방안 연구—국립중앙박물관 촉지 기반 접근성 콘텐츠를 중심으로 = A Study on Enhancing Exhibition Accessibility for Culturally Marginalized Groups through the Structuring of Sensory and Informational Experiences

The recent emergence of accessibility as a key agenda for museums reflects an inherent sense of responsibility to actively integrate contemporary societal values into their practices.Highlighted as a methodology for fostering inclusivity, the concept of accessibility encompasses a broader range of practices beyond the mere elimination of physical barriers. In Korea, however, discussions on accessibility have primarily focused on improving the physical environment and expanding services for culturally marginalized groups, particularly individuals with disabilities, in conjunction with museum policies and related legal revisions. Beyond improving facilities, activities to enhance exhibition accessibility for people with disabilities, such as tactile displays, tactile guides, sign language interpretation, and the creation of easy-to-understand information, are also increasing.
In order for the quantitatively increasing efforts to improve museum accessibility to lead to tangible changes that can be experienced by the intended beneficiaries, it is necessary to have implementation models and strategies that reflect the complex spatial nature of museums. In line with this context and the perspective of enhancing users' cultural engagement experiences, this study closely examined at the micro-level content and communication methods of 45 tactile-based accessibility content, which have constituted a significant portion of the National Museum of Korea's accessibility improvement efforts, and explored ways to strengthen their effectiveness.
The findings indicate that tactile-based content items in permanent exhibition halls can fulfill their intended roles more effectively by enhancing information delivery through the integration of sensory activities and structuring of experiences. Recognizing individuals with disabilities as universal users with unique preferences is also crucial. This approach suggests that recognizing individuals with diabilities as universal individuals with unique preferences and linking a museum’s diverse sensory content to accessibilty content can enhance inclusive accessibility by expanding their range of selectable journeys and experiences. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of support that enables the systematic sharing and growth of on-site experiences as assets, serving as a driving force for sustainable accessibility improvements.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

접근성(Accessibility)이 최근 박물관의 중요 의제로 대두한 데에는 동시대의 지향 가치 실현에 박물관이 적극적으로 개입해야 한다는 책임의식이 내재되어 있다. 포용적 박물관 구현의 방법론으로서 강조되는 접근성은 물리적 장벽 해소 이상의 폭넓은 실천을 함의한다. 그러나 국내에서 접근성 논의는 박물관 정책 및 관련 법 개정과 맞물려 문화취약계층, 특히 장애인을 위한 물리적 환경 개선과 서비스 확대로 집중되고 있다. 그에 따라 편의시설 개선을 넘어 촉지 전시, 촉지 안내, 수어 해설, 쉬운 정보 작성 등 장애인 전시 접근성 개선을 위한 활동 역시 증가하고 있다. 이처럼 양적으로 확대되는 박물관의 접근성 개선 활동이 당사자가 체감 가능한 실질적 변화로 이어지기 위해서는 박물관이라는 복합적 장소성이 반영된 실행 모델과 전략이 필요하다. 따라서 이용자의 문화 향유 경험 향상이라는 관점 하에 그간 국립중앙박물관이 실행해 온 접근성 개선 활동 중 비중이 높은 촉지 기반 접근성 콘텐츠 45종의 내용 구성과 소통 방식을 미시적으로 살펴보고 실효성 강화 방안을 검토하였다. 그 결과 상설전시관에 비치된 촉지 기반 콘텐츠가 본연의 역할을 다하기 위해서는 감각 활동 간 연계와 경험의 구조화를 통한 정보 전달력 강화가 필요함을 논하였다. 또한 개별 취향을 지닌 보편적 개인으로서 장애 당사자를 인식하고 박물관의 분산된 감각 콘텐츠를 접근성 콘텐츠와 연결해 이들이 선택 가능한 여정과 경험의 폭을 넓히는 것이 포용적 접근성 향상을 이끌 수 있음을 제시하였다. 더불어 현장의 경험 자산을 체계적으로 공유하고 성장시킬 수 있는 지원이 지속성 있는 접근성 개선의 동력이 될 수 있음도 강조하였다.
