일본의 풍자만화로 보는 독도문제 -한일회담기를 중심으로 = Dokdo Issue In Japanese Political Cartoons: During the Korea-Japan Normalization Talks

This research, passing through reviewing simply the Dokdo issue on Korea-Japan normalization talks, is intend to analyze how the Dokdo issue was described and what messages were delivered to readers based on political cartoons which were published in Japanese newspaper at that time. Political cartoons presented simply and clearly social assessment on the Dokdo issue via visual images and messages under conditions where detailed information were lacking because what matters were dealt on the talks was almost closed. This is why political cartoons are set as analyzed objects. The analysis period here under was determined as from 1962 when an agreement of claim rights issue was reached to 1965 when diplomatic relations were normalized with the effectuation of Korea-Japan Basic Treaty. For the analysis newspapers, they were converged on the Asahi Newspaper, the Mainichi Newspaper, the Yomiuri Newspaper, the Sankei Newspaper in a way of considering circulation at that time, which were a national newspaper. As a result, it is exposed that in political cartoons there are various emotions, such as recognizing on territories which Japan is claiming its ownership of Dokdo and they will not yield an inch, cautioning against Korea, expecting and concerning whether or not it can be came to an amicable settlement, criticizing on normalization which still shelve the Dokdo issue. Facing with current situation where Japan is insisting to submit the Dokdo issue the International Court of Justice so as to bring it to settlement after President Lee myung-bak paid a visit to Dokdo on August 2012, to comprehend how Japanese look at the Dokdo issue and how they think by what method the issue should be came to settlement and how they feel about Korea’s image will give important thought-provoking in order to understand the current Dokdo issue to the extent of Korea-Japan relations.
