데살로니가前書에 反映된 바울의 牧會的 돌봄 = (A) study on the Paul's pastoral care reflected in 1 Thessalonians

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main purpose of this study is to investigate The Paul's
pastoral care reflected in First Thessalonians. For the purpose of this study is specifically interested in elucidating contextual background of churches in Thessalonians, and which efforts were made to sustain churches and to protect Christians' faith in spite of their difficulties. This study is consist of five chapters as following.
In the first chapter as an introduction part, the issue in regard to this study, the reasons why this study is so important, the definition and limitation of it were discussed. And preceding studies on 'First Thessalonians' acquired through the history articles and research method of this study were discussed.
In the second chapter, local background of churches located in Thessalonians were discussed from four points of view, geographical, politic/economic, social/cultural and religious features. In the third chapter titled by ‘the need of Paul's pastoral care', the necessity of pastoral care for Thessalonians' churches were discussed by dividing into three factors, internal, external and relational factor between Thessalonians' churches and Paul.
In the fourth chapter titled by 'the specific ways of Paul's
pastoral care', the ways how Paul applied the pastoral care in Thessalonians according to the need of each church were discussed. In the fifth chapter as a conclusion part, summary about all the previous contents, meaning and usefulness of this study were discussed.
The contents on Paul's pastoral care in 'First thessalonians'
based on this study are as following.
⑴ This is about the faith identity or self esteem as a 'God's man'for Thessalonians' Christians who were in trouble because of the religious background in Hellenism. To take care of Thessalonians' Christians, Paul used contrast method repeatedly, which means comparison between the people who were outside of churches without any hope because they didn't know God and the others who believed in living and real God.
⑵ While Paul was doing his mission, he made people to be ready for severe trials by predicting oppression and torment coming towards them in advance. The pastoral care at this point was to make Thessalonians' Christians to feel the sense of sameness as Christians in Judea. Paul want Thessalonians' Christians to realize that their churches were tormented by the same race as the churches in Judea were done by Jewish people.
⑶ Paul used the way of pastoral care sending his partner,
Timothy, to Thessalonians' Christians who were suffering from religious persecution.
⑷ Thessalonians’ churches used the way of recommendation to solve internal problems. This means that a variety of problems in churches should be solved by the pastoral care with 'recommendation'.
⑸ There are two ways of pastoral care to solve the problem of relationship. The first way is about 'the relationship of affection'. Paul's affection towards Thessalonians' Christians were revealed many times in 'First Thessalonians'. The second is about Paul's attitude towards them. He used the way of pastoral care which
always commended and raise up Christians. This kind of attitude was verified throughout the whole 'First Thessalonians'.
⑹ Based on 'First Thessalonians', Paul kept very close relationship with Christians for better care. Firstly, his mind seems to be described by the sense of parents which menas he tried the way of pastoral care, family-oriented relationship with Thessalonians' Christians. This can be the typical 'home model'. In other words, it can be revealed by mothers' role which takes care of their children softly as if a nanny did, and by fathers' role which recommends, comforts and stare at them strictly as if fathers did. Secondly, Paul tried the pastoral care emphasizing the brotherhood in Jesus Christ, in that the word 'brother' was used fourteen times in the short 'First Thessalonians'.
⑺ Paul tried pastoral care through a team mission. He gave his power to Timothy and had him care Thessalonians' churches. Since he started his mission at the Thessalonians' churches for the first time, he had preached the Gospel with Timothy and 실루아노 and worked with the team members in order for better pastoral care. In fact, this team mission can be possible through power of attorney and sharing of role. ⑻ Paul tried pastoral care alled 'pastoral care by mail'. That was the way providing answers on predicting questions by mail and the way having the answers to be exchanged to each other.
⑼ Paul tried pastoral care through prayer and association(1:3, 2:13,5:17) connecting Thessalonians’ churches and Paul.
⑽ Paul tried pastoral care that he himself modeled his life in God to Thessalonians' churches. The first modeling was about usage of money, which made efforts and worked so hard by using his own money and the next modeling was about Paul's faith and morality which acted holy without any flaw.
⑾ The contents of the most focused pastoral care by Paul in 'First Thessalonians' were about waiting life for resurrection of Jesus Christ. Paul mentioned 'resurrection‘ at every chapter to emphasize it.
⑿ The last purpose of pastoral care was to raise up the Christians who can reach the Heaven and God's glory, and who can be the right man without any shaking in difficulties in front of God.
