<임진록>의 강홍립 형상화와 작자의식 - 1차 정왜의 의미를 중심으로 = Study on the Personification of Gang Hong-lip and Authorial Consciousness in “Imjinrok”: Focus on the First Conquest of Japan

국문 초록 (Abstract)

강홍립에 대한 국문학에서의 연구는 <강로전>과 <책중일록>에 집중되어 왔지만 <임진록>도 연구 대상이 되어야 한다. <임진록>에서 강홍립은 의병장인 영웅으로서 조선을 구원했지만, 1차 정왜의 선봉장이 되려다가 명예욕과 독선에 빠지고 정벌군도 전멸하였다. 그 상태에서 왜왕이 회유하자 강홍립은 변절하였고, 결국 김응서에게 죽임을 당한다.
임진왜란은 도요토미 히데요시의 죽음으로 중단되었다가 강화를 거쳐 종전되었다. 이에 대해 주전파는 <임진록>에서 1차 정왜라는 가상의 일본 정벌을 시도하였고, 회유된 강홍립이 변절자로서 단죄되는 서사를 만들었다. 이를 통해 주전파는 현실의 임진왜란의 수행과 종전 과정에서 있었던 일본과의 화친 시도에 대해 비판하였다.
심하 전투는 화친을 가장한 항복과 그에 따른 변절과 절개의 대립을 뚜렷이 보여주는 사례였다. 주전파는 이를 1차 정왜로 각색, 수용한 것이다. 주전파의 주장이 시의성을 상실하고 임진왜란에 대한 <임진록> 수용자들의 의식이 변화하면서, 1차 정왜가 나타나지 않는 <임진록> 이본군이 존재하는 이본군과 공존하게 되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Research on Gang Hong-lip in Korean literature has focused predominantly on “Gangrojeon” and “Chakjungilrok”. However, “Imjinrok” requires further investigation. In “Imjinrok”, Gang Hong-lip is portrayed as a heroic general of righteous armies who succumbs to his lust for fame and self-righteousness, ultimately leading to the annihilation of the Joseon's army during their attempted conquest of Japan. Gang Hong-lip was enthralled by the Japanese king's flattery and was killed by Kim Eung-seo.
The Imjin war concluded following Toyotomi Hideyosi's death and subsequent negotiations. “Imjinrok” depicts a faction advocating for a hypothetical campaign to conquer Japan; the narrative condemns Gang Hong-lip as a defector.
The Simha battle exemplifies surrender under the guise of a promised peace and the conflict between betrayal and loyalty. A warring faction accepted this as the story of the first conquest of Japan. As their arguments became outdated and perception of the Imjin war shifted, two versions of “Imjinrok” emerged: one including the first conquest story and one without it.
