This study targeted on the selected poems of the members of Lee Kwangsa’s Jeonju Lee Family Deokcheongun Clan, which represent Ganghwa School among Soron Academic Circle during the late Joseon Dynasty, abstracts of their poems. This study examined the actual aspects of succeeding the poetic literature by dividing into “direct succession through poetry writing” and “indirect succession through selected poems.” In the “direct succession through poetry writing,” this study analyzed the long poems created by Lee Kwangsa and his two sons, Lee Geungik and Lee Yongik. Their poems were written in the same format of 90 semantic characters(韻). Their poems were also written in the similar tones and expressed their inner side straightly in the form of verbal message. These are the common characteristics found in the long poems written by Lee and his two sons. In addition, the creation of the long poems extends beyond temporary exchange of poems. The format of 90 semantic characters is also utilized in creating other poems, and this shows continuity of creation. Lee enjoyed creating long poems and expressing is inner thoughts honestly during his exile at Puryong County. His tendency and method of creating poems were succeeded directly to his two sons.
In the “indirect succession through selected poems,” this study targeted the poems from Hyeopjungjip(篋中集), compiled by Lee Sangsun to collect the poems of the ancestors. Then, this study sorted and analyzed the poems that show the continuous flow and common characteristics in the poetic literature. The representative poem is the several successive lines of verses(Yeongusi, 聯句詩) included under the subtitle of "Yeongujip” at the end of Hyeopjungjip(篋中集). The several successive lines of verses are created between Lee family’s father and son, uncle and nephew, brothers, and cousins. Like long poems, the several successive lines of verses were continuously created by the family’s Gwang Generation and Ik Generation. The poems also share the same creative backgrounds, which are training the poem and solidifying the bond of family members. The fact that the collection of poems was compiled by collecting several figures, instead of specific person of the family shows that the tradition poetic literature was continued in the level of family.
