As seen earlier, the expressions of the Israelite territories in Deuteronomy 11:24 and Joshua 1:3-4 are similar to those of the Mesopotamian expressions in the way they are espressed. In addition, the geographical expressions of Joshua1:3-4 and Deuteronomy 11:24 indicate the ideal territorial boundaries in the time of Josiah(639-609 BC). The range of territories is similar to that of the David-Solomonic period. However, its method of expression is influenced by the Assyrian royal inscriptions.
How were the Deuteronomistic work influenced by the Mesopotamian ex? How is the Deuteronomist's ideal territories similar to the ideal territories of the J narratives? Concerning these questions, some scholars have insisted that one of the Deuteronomistic editors, so-called Dtrl, knew, quoted and expounded the J narrative. According to B. Peckgham. Deuteronomistic history consists of four different sources as follows : Dtr1. Dtr2. E and P., although among them, Dtr2 is the principal historian. However, Dtr2 also interpreted other souces. According to Peckham, Deuteronomy 11:24 and Joshua 1:3-4 belong to Dtr1 which is a sequel of the Jnarrative. From a textual point of view, we can assume that the Deuteronomist reinterpreted and expounded geographical expressions of the J narrative from his major theological, political point of view. As expounded previously, the Deuteronomist was influenced by the Assyrian royal inscriptions.
As a result I think that the ideal territory of Israel in the time of Josiah's reign was not a concept of boundaries peculiar to the Deuteronomist , but he only succeeded the David-Solomonic ideal concept of boundaries of Israel, which changed just in the form of expression.
Concerning the chronology of the two Biblical passages, Deuteronomy 11:24 and Joshua 1:3-4, the expression of Joshua is later than that of Deuteronomy. Furthermore in the passage of Joshua we can easily detect the Assyrian influence.
