한국과 베트남의‘베트남전쟁’ 인식과 교육

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 베트남전쟁에 대한 기억과 인식을 주제로 한 선행연구와 베트남전쟁 관련 내용을 담은 역사교과서에 대한 내용분석을 통해 한국과 베트남이 베트남전쟁에 대해 가지고 있는 인식과 교육상황을 파악하여 그 문제점을 진단하고자 한다. 지금까지 베트남전쟁에 대한 양국의 인식은 서로 달라 베트남은 구국항전, 통일전쟁, 인민전쟁으로 본 반면에 한국은 국제전, 내전, 비정규전의 중층적 성격을 제대로 이해하지 못한 채 냉전적 성격에만 치우치는 수준에 머물고 있다. 이러한 차이와 왜곡은 양국의 역사교육에 반영되어 전자는 시종일관 전쟁의 원인과 과정, 결과를 민족주의 사관에 입각해 교과서 편찬, 박물관 전시 및 보훈 정책 등에서 연계 프로그램을 운영하고 반면 후자는 보수와 진보진영간 상이한 역사 교과서 편찬, 사회 재교육과정을 수행하면서 역사 화해와 대화를 위한 토대를 마련하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 결론적으로 이처럼 베트남전쟁에 대한 양국의 상이한 인식과 역사교육의 실상을 통해 볼 때 과연 현재단계에서 양국 간 역사적 화해와 대화가 가능할지는 의문이다. 양국의 상이한 역사적 경험과 국가 안보 및 주권에 대한 인식에서 비롯된 이러한 차이를 극복하기 위해서는 끊임없는 다각적인 연구와 노력이 요구된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Although the VietnamWar, the worst war of the 20th century, has ended, memories of Korea and Vietnam are still in dormancy or signs of revival in recent years. However, not only do the two Koreans" perceptions of the VietnamWar differ, but they also reveal political, social, and emotional divisions and discomfort. This phenomenon also affects the history education related to the VietnamWar of both countries, causing tension to the diplomatic relations of the student generation as well as the old generation. The purpose of this article is to understand the perceptions and educational situation of the VietnamWar in Korea and Vietnam by means of analyzing the historical textbooks about the VietnamWar and the prior research on the memory and recognition of it.
Until now, the two countries have different perceptions of the VietnamWar, while Vietnamhas recognized it as a war of patriotism, unification war, and the People"s War. On the other hand, South Korea has not fully understood the overlapped character of international warfare, civil war and irregular warfare. These differences and distortions are reflected in the history education of the two countries, and the former consistently operates a linkage programin the textbook compilation, museumdisplay and veterinary policy based on the nationalist historical viewof the cause, process and result of war. The latter, on the other hand, is unable to lay the groundwork for historical reconciliation and dialogue while compiling different history textbooks and social reeducation courses between conservatives and progressive camps.
In conclusion, it is doubtful whether historical reconciliation and dialogue between the two countries will be possible at this stage, given the different perceptions of the two countries and the reality of historical education. To overcome these differences stemming fromthe different historical experiences of both countries and the perception of national security and sovereignty, there is a need for continuous and diverse research and efforts.
