은유의 치료적 활용 = Practical Therapeutic Use of Metaphor

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study is to find out the possibility of metaphor as the tool which can diagnose requesters' thought and can heal them in the field of counsel and psychological care. Metaphor is not a scientific or logical expression but an indirect and roundabout expression so it helps people to explain their life problems. With using metaphor they who have problems in life could share or talk their problems to others. Metaphor has a role to make requesters release their thought, world view and valuesand it also makes them reflect their fundamental thought and emotion without noticing what they are doing. Therefore, we can diagnose requesters situation through metaphor.
In this study I introduce some examples which are already practically used in healing area and counsel. I also research its method and process to use “living metaphor and dead one.”
Body words are practically used here. The metaphorical expression of “emotion is temperature” can be used as a catalytic method to requesters. For example in the case requesters have problems in their emotions we can let them pour out their emotions unconsciously to use a conceptional metaphor-emotion “heat” through making them remind a temperature or to check the change of their temperature directly. Through general conceptional metaphor, requesters can express their own emotional problems which are hidden on the bottom of their mind unconsciously. In the case of using body words, we can represent our body by metaphors It is important to understand their own bodies in the existing counsel or healing. We can see the example of healing to use the understanding of self-body to metaphor. In the healing of family care we represent each part of body as an individual character by metaphors. Then we make requesters try to talk their bodies. Finally requesters talk about inner themselves. Through this conversation, they conciliate themselves and find their identities and gradually get self confidence. All of them can be possible by metaphors.
Also to study the usage of mind like“mind is a bowl, a tress is a man” I research how to use metaphors in the healing counsel. In its field premised conceptional metaphor is similar to the idiomatic conceptional metaphor in expressions. If idiomatic expressions are more studied, we can find a lot more practical healing methods. And the common points in idiomatic expressions can help the practical effect to heal requesters by metaphor.
