한반도 분단질서의 균열과 담론정치: 영화 <건국전쟁>을 둘러싼 담론의 정치적 맥락, 특성과 반공복합체 = The Fracture of Korean Peninsula’s Division Order and Discourse Politics: The Political Context, Characteristics, and Anti-Communist Complex of Discourses Related to the Film The Birth of Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2024년 2월 개봉한 영화 <건국전쟁>은 짧은 기간 내 100만 관객을 돌파하며 흥행에 성공했다. 주목할 점은, 헌법에 명시된 “4ㆍ19민주이념을 계승”한다는 사회적 공감대에도 불구하고 이승만에 대한 재평가와 건국절 제정 필요성을 둘러싼 여론이 형성되었다는 사실이다. 본 연구는 이러한 담론의 형성과 확산을 ‘반공복합체’라는 특정 정치·사회적 네트워크의 담론정치와 연결해 분석한다. 이를 위해 가추법과 비판적 담론분석을 활용하였으며, 문헌조사와 언론 보도 자료를 중심으로 데이터를 수집하였다. 본 연구에서 제기한 문제의식은 크게 세 가지다. 첫째, 이승만과 건국절 담론이 등장한 배경은 무엇인가? 둘째, 해당 담론은 어떠한 프레임과 이항대립 구조로 구성되는가? 셋째, 담론 형성과 확산에 핵심적 역할을 한 인물과 단체는 누구인가? 분석을 통해 2000년대 이후 분단질서의 균열이 시작되면서 반공을 중심으로 한 역사 재구성이 본격화되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 해당 담론의 핵심 주장은 이승만을 대한민국의 국부로 복원해야 하며, 그 근거는 자유대한민국의 건국과 성공적인 한미동맹의 체결에 기반하고 있었다. 마지막으로, 이 담론의 생산과 확산은 반공 이데올로기를 통해 기득권을 형성한 특정 단체와 인사들의 후원을 통해 진행되고 있었다. 연구자는 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 분단구조를 지속·강화하려는 특정 집단의 담론정치를 경계할 필요성을 강조한다. 특히, 최근의 12.3 계엄을 통해 확인된 정치적 갈등과 남남갈등이 이러한 담론정치와 연결되어 있음을 고려할 때, 이에 대응하는 대항 담론의 생산과 역사교육의 중요성이 더욱 높아졌다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The film The Birth of Korea, released in February 2024, surpassed one million viewers in a short period, achieving box office success. Notably, this success occurred despite the prevailing social consensus on upholding the “April 19 Democratic Ideals” as stipulated in the Constitution, leading to renewed discussions on reevaluating Syngman Rhee and establishing a national founding day. This study analyzes the formation and dissemination of these discourses in connection with the discourse politics of a specific political and social network referred to as the “anti-communist complex.” To achieve this, abductive reasoning and critical discourse analysis were employed, with data collected through literature reviews and media reports. This study is structured around three key research questions: First, what are the origins of the discourses surrounding Syngman Rhee and the national founding day? Second, how are these discourses framed, and what binary oppositions do they employ? Third, who are the key figures and organizations involved in shaping and spreading these discourses? The analysis reveals that, since the 2000s, as the structure of national division began to show fractures, historical narratives centered on anti-communism have been actively reconstructed. Additionally, the core argument of these discourses asserts that Syngman Rhee should be restored as the founding father of South Korea, justified by the establishment of an anti-communist state and the success of the ROK-U.S. alliance. Finally, the dissemination of these discourses has been driven by specific individuals and organizations that have leveraged anti-communist ideology to maintain vested interests. Based on these findings, the study emphasizes the need to critically examine the discourse politics of certain groups seeking to perpetuate and reinforce the division structure. Given the political conflicts and societal polarization, as evidenced by the recent December 3 martial law incident, it is increasingly crucial to develop counter-discourses and enhance historical education.
