｢향악잡영(鄕樂雜詠)｣ 5수와 최치원의 내면 의식 = The Five Songs of ｢HyangakJapyeong(鄕樂雜詠)｣ and Choi Chi-won (崔致遠)’s Inner Consciousness

Choi Chi-won’s Five Songs of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ are important materials that allow us to guess the folk games of the late Silla period. Perhaps because of this, discussions have mainly focused on the performance aspect, with relatively little interest in the works themselves. In this paper, we will take a different direction from previous research and reexamine the materials related to the Five Songs of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ and examine how Choi Chi-won’s authorial consciousness is reflected in the content of the works.
It is believed that the Five Songs of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ were composed during the politically turbulent period when the author, Choi Chi-won, returned to Silla from Tang China. This suggests that the political anxiety he felt in the chaotic political reality of the late Silla period was directly or indirectly projected into the Five Songs of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ that were composed at that time. Therefore, Choi Chi-won’s wish for national peace and security captured in the Five Songs of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ seems to have been closely related to the unstable political reality of the late Silla period, and thus ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ was created.
These five poems of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ seem to have been written as poems after seeing performances held during official royal ceremonies to pray for national peace. Furthermore, the content of these five poems all have the characteristics of a poem-like poem of a wall painting. When examining these five poems, we can sense Choi Chi-won's inner consciousness praying for peace and prosperity and national peace and prosperity for the people. Therefore, these five poems of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ seem to have an organic relationship with each other rather than being individual works.
The inner consciousness of Choi Chi-won extracted from the five poems of ｢HyangakJapyeong｣ can be summarized as follows: <Geumhwan(金丸)>: This poem is considered to contain the author's inner wish for national peace and prosperity while watching a performance of ‘Bangulnori’ and looking forward to a ruler like Ui-Ryo(宜僚) who would end the war and restore stability to the country.
<Woljeon(月顚)>: This poem seems to contain the author's thoughts on the characteristics and audience reactions of a performance derived from Woljeon(月顚). This poem does not reveal the author's inner consciousness on the surface of the work. However, it seems that the author contained the content of wishing for a peaceful world of Kangguyeonwol(康衢煙月) in the work.
<Dae-myeon(大面)>: This poem contains the author's wish for a peaceful era while looking at the mask play, reminiscent of the red phoenix of the Yao(堯) era.
<Sok-dok(束毒)>: The author, Choi Chi-won, expressed his wish for the stability of the country and a peaceful era symbolized by the orchid while looking at the play.
<San-ye(狻猊)>: It is believed that the author expressed his inner consciousness of wishing for overcoming the difficult political reality of the time by revealing the majesty and virtue of the king as the ruler through the San-ye play.
