첫째, 120kph, 140kph, 160kph의 자동주행 속도를 대상으로 (차량간격 : 0.0625초) 자동주행 구간 (AL) 및 자동주행 전후 수동 주행구간 (Pre- and Post-AHS), 두 개의 전환차선 (TL1, TL2) 주행시 운전자에게 요구되는 부하를 반응시간 (secondary task), 피부전기반사 (Galvanic Skin Response : 이하 GSR), 안전도 (Electrooculography : 이하 EOG), steering entropy, Revision of National Aeronautics and Space Administration-Task Load Index (이하 RNASA-TLX) 및 차량속도를 평가하여 자동주행이 운전자 부하에 미치는 영향과 'Carry- over' 효과를 예측하였으며, 운전자 부하 예측 모델을 제시하였다.
The AHS (Automated Highway Systems) is regarded as the highest and top level of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) technology as the solution of land transportation problem through steering and speed control automation. Expectations are high for such potential benefits that includes (1) improve of safety by reducing the individual driver's impact on the flow through the 'hands-off and 'foot-off' driving, (2) improve the travel comfort by reducing the spent time on the road, and (3) create the social and economical contributions by improving the road efficiency and capacity, and by reducing the energy use and environmental problems.
Human Factors considerations are crucial issues for AHS design because human driver should be involved in automated driving even if there is no need to control the steering and speed during automated driving. Because of all roads will not be automated, so drivers should drive the vehicle manually before and after automated driving, and drivers may be expected to instruct the entrance/exit locations and destinations, take control in some emergency situations, and driving authority changes. Most of information would be supplied newly developed in-vehicle systems of the head-up display and the AHS flat panel display that are the additional workload sources to the driver. By considering this changed driving operations and behaviors of AHS, driver capabilities and limitations must be considered to ensure successful implementation of the AHS to avoid the catastrophic failure and carry-over effect that could arouse by the negative impacts of AHS use. Therefore, human factors investigation and prediction of AHS driver's workloads play an important roles in designing and evaluating the AHS configuration and driver-vehicle interface, derivation of human factors research objects, and impact analysis of AHS.
The objectives of this thesis has two-folds. On one hand, this thesis will predict and modeling the demanded workloads of AHS driver among pre- and post-AHS manual driving lane, AL (Automated Lane), and two kinds of TL (Transition Lane) using reaction time (secondary task), GSR (Galvanic Skin Response), EOG (Electrooculography), steering entropy, RNASA-TLX (Revision of National Aeronautics and Space Administration-Task Load Index) and vehicle speed data to investigate the carry-over effect at 120 kph, 140 kph, and 160 kph automated driving speed. As the result, AHS driver's workload prediction model was suggested using above dependent measures.
On the other hands, this thesis proposed the specification and driver-vehicle interface of fixed-base AHS simulator not only for the human factors researches, but also for the expansion of advanced network-based multi-user AHS simulator for the investigation and modeling of individual driver's behaviors. Development of this kind of simulator could help to investigate the driver's interactions, and also does the exact estimation of road capacity when implement the AHS by the combination of traffic simulator. Finally, simulator and AHS usability evaluation was performed to investigate the Korean driver's acceptability.
As the result, there required the higher driver's workloads in TL and post-AHS driving road sections than pre-AHS manual road section without significant effects of AHS speed. It means that the human factors engineers should consider the workload and performance improvement strategies when design the AHS road-driver-vehicle interface for the driver's safety, reduced workloads, and performance. One of considerable subjects requirements was the education and training facility needs of AHS before its implementation. Then, they gave the affirmative opinions about developed simulator as an AHS training tool. This thesis suggested the basis and guidelines of the human factors researches for the ITS-related hardware and electronic engineers to fulfill their application needs of human factors.
