공간구문론을 이용한 농촌주택 표준설계도 평면 분석 연구 = A Study on the Space Analysis of the Standard Rural House Design Using the Space Syntax

(Background and Purpose) With the increase in people wanting to start new lives in farming and fishing villages, settlement of these newcomers has become a big issue. In consideration of such situations, this study intends to spatially analyze the Standard Rural House Design developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs and the Korea Rural Community Corporation. It will consider the harmony of surrounding natural views, and changes in housing characteristics. This study will examine yearly changes in design trends, and explore ways in which they can be improved. By quantitatively analyzing the Standard Rural House Design (focusing on ground plans through spatial syntax), this study intends to use it as basic template for developing future Standard Rural House Designs. (Method) This study’s research objects are a total of 32 versions of the Standard Rural House Design: eight versions suggested in the 2014 Standard Rural House Design; eight versions from 2012; ten versions from 2010; and six versions from 2009. To perform quantitative and concrete evaluations, this study used the Convex Analysis Program tool of space syntax. It improved the research’s objectivity by quantifying spaces in floor plans. This study used four indicators as space syntax variables: 1) connectivity; 2) control value; 3) integration; and 4) intelligibility. (Results) Comparison of the annual changes in mean values for space syntax variables in Standard Rural House Design showed the following trends: Connectivity has continuously increased (with a temporary decrease in 2012). The mean value of control of space organization has always been “1,” due to the characteristics of the variable. Overall, integration has improved, yet, in 2014, the value again decreased. Intelligibility has also increased, but (as with integration) its value decreased in 2014. (Conclusions) First, the annually changing trends of space syntax variables (connectivity, integration, and intelligibility) in Standard Rural House Design have increased. Namely, the Standard Rural House Design has developed to increase connectivity of spaces, and the accessibility and recognition of spaces. Second, annual changes in the distribution of the number of spaces has increased, while the proportion of spaces where connectivity is higher than the mean, and the proportion of spaces where control and integration are higher than the mean has decreased. Third, considering that the overall mean values of connectivity, integration, and intelligibility have increased, we can conclude that shared living spaces like living rooms, kitchens, foyers, and lobbies have developed in the direction of improving connectivity and accessibility. In contrast, private life spaces like bedrooms, side rooms, and bathrooms have developed to decrease connectivity and accessibility to secure privacy.
