가톨릭 교회 전례에서의 오르간 음악의 역할과 위상 : 한국 교회를 중심으로

The liturgy is the mystery of Christ and also public respect accomplished by the church, the people of God. It is the prayer of Christ and the church and the paramount of prayer revealed by the acts of people. Through the history of church, sacred music has added its holy, glorious and brilliant color in the liturgy as prayer. Thus, ＜Sacrosanctum Concilium＞ (The encyclical about liturgy in Catholic church) says that among so many kinds of arts as ways we give God praise, music is the most superior one.
In Catholic church, Pipe Organ is defined as official musical instrument for liturgical music. ＜Sacrosanctum Concilium＞ promulgated by the 2nd Vatican Council proclaims that pipe organ needs to be esteemed as the traditional musical instrument in Latin church (Nr.120). Also, it says that the sound of pipe organ can add brilliant color and exalt our faith towards God. In fact, the beautiful and opulent sound of pipe organ has great value as for art. Also, it has affirmative effects that enhance the mind of people purified by beauty.
More than 200 years have passed since the Catholic faith flowed into Korea and the situation of economy made good progress. However, the status of pipe organ, the official musical instrument of the liturgy in Catholic church is still lack of understanding and ill-informed.
Even though the sacred music is not the essence of liturgy, the faith of people will be elevated higher. When the pipe organ which is the pivot of sacred music gets better understanding, the liturgy of Korean Catholic church will have enter on a new phase.
It is the reason that this thesis has the theme of the function and prospect of pipe organ music in the liturgy of Catholic church in Korea.
In chapter 1, the relation between music and faith is referred by studying the basis of liturgical music in Bible. The process and history of liturgical music in the history of church helps us understand the background and principle that pipe organ was appreciated as the official musical instrument in the liturgy of Catholic church.
In chapter 2, the process that organ was flowed into the Catholic church in Korea is mentioned. Also, we will have the chance of understanding the most effective way that pipe organ is used. Even though the style of accompaniment and color-tone depend on organists and some difference will happen by the place and liturgical year, in this thesis, I tried to inform the most general kinds.
In chapter 3, the situation of hoding pipe organs in Korea is informed so that it helps us apprehend the phase of pipe organ in Catholic church in Korea. Finally, the role and duty of organists as the holy servants of liturgy and the circumstances and problems around them will be introduced so that it will give us the chance tothink out the best measure that liturgy can be sublimed into the gift fot God.
