東北亞 經濟協力體 구축을 위한 南北韓 經濟協力의 役割 = The Role of Economic Cooperation between South and North Korea for the Regional Economic Cooperation of North East Asia

In 1990s, the world had experienced a dramatic changes in the field of politics; the end of Cold War, economics; the globalization, and science; a rapid development of information technology. The changes of three fields had not occurred separately, but developed interdependently and simultaneously. However, with results of the changes, most nations emphasize on economic interest instead of ideology. so globalized economy and regional economic cooperation are concurrently in process as a new world order.
But, while regional economic cooperations has successfully been in progress in other regions, North East Asian countries fail to reach any regional economic cooperations. However, there are several factors for the failure, one of the most critical factors is that there exist the last divided nations of the world in North East Asian region-China and Taiwan, South and North Korea. Especially North Korea has been suffered from economic crisis, thereby threatened with national existence after the dismemberment of Communist Bloc. Naturally, North Korea has strengthened the national militarization for survival, and these circumstances lead Korean Peninsula to increase tensions. But the basis facor which falls North Korea into the national crisis is not from the military menaces of the capitalist countries, but her internal fragility-the inefficiency of planning economy-and distcontinuance of aids and supports from the Communist allies.
Hence, opening economy and cooperating with other economies, especially South Korea, is the most efficient and only way to survive for North Korea. The economic cooperation South and North Korea will release the tensions between two Korea and this will promote the economic cooperation of North East Asia. But, on the other hand, South Korea with her insufficient economic capabilities has limits to support North Korea to escape from the economic crisis. Therefore, the economic cooperations with North East Asian economies are needed for North Korea. Along with the recovery of North Korean economy and the progress of economic cooperations between twon Koreas, a peaceful state will be advanced in Korean Peninsula. Once again the economic cooperation of North East Asia will facilitate North Korea's economic development and peace settlement in Korean Peninsula.
