존 크랑코(John Cranko)의 안무 스타일에 관한 연구 - <오네긴>과 <말괄량이 길들이기> 중심으로 = A Study on the Choreography Style of John Cranko. - Focusing on < Onegin > and < The Taming of the Shrew >

The purpose of this thesis is to study a choreograph style of John Cranko(1927-1973), who was the most popular choreographer in the ballet boom era of 1960s and played a lubricant role in the 20th European ballet with the modifier of ‘great master of drama ballet’ and ‘Noverre of the 20th century.’ He has choreographed numerous ballet works by constructing his own unique choreograph style, and made the Stuttgart Ballet to be a world-class ballet company and development of devastated German ballet at the time. The influence of a great choreographer makes not only excellent works, but also huge contributions on the development of dancing. Accordingly, it is thought that studying Cranko``s choreograph style would give a guideline on choreograph methods of ballet works. This study process has analyzed works in the aspects of movement phrases by selecting < Onegin, 1965 > and < The Taming of the Shrew, 1969 >, which are the representative works of Cranko. It could be known that his characteristic choreograph style shown through analysis of Cranko``s works is a dramatic form and was placing emphasis on development based on storytelling and diverse and expressive movement showing human psychology. His choreograph style showed a diverse aspect of a strong dramatic development that finishes the classic ballet capable of being bored to a devastating end by driving it to a tragedy, while converting emotional things and tragic things diversely, and showed the development of works smeared with laughter and beauty by using comedy and lyricism. His choreograph style made dancing to be a realistic and affluent story expressing human psychology as movement, while movement of dancers expresses development of works, future situation and emotions of main characters. Works of Cranko are actively being performed until present because of its strong story and expressive movement. However, it is the real situation that vitalizations of creative ballet are not being achieved in our country``s ballet. It is thought that studying a style of a great master would provide reference cases and guideline on ballet choreograph methods to our country``s ballet, so it is expected that world-class ballet works comes out even in our country by studying a choreograph style of much more choreographers.
