원대 관수용 철제공예품의 제작체제와 빈철鑌鐵 －대도와 상도를 중심으로－ = The Production System and Colored Iron of Public Iron Crafts in the Yuan Dynasty: Focusing on the great sword and the upper sword: Focusing on the Dadu and Sangdu

This paper examines the exchange of material culture and the composition of the production system in the government handicraft industry of Dadu and Shangdu, the two capitals of the Yuan Dynasty. To this end, we analyzed the government offices, craftsmen, and distribution systems for the production system of iron crafts operated in Dadu and Shangdu by the government crafts organization of the Yuan Dynasty in the 13th and 14th centuries, and examined the operation and management characteristics of their craftsmanship. In addition, among the iron-related government offices within the central government office, a separate government office was established to focus on colored iron, and the materials and techniques of colored iron crafts produced at the time as well as external exchange relationships were analyzed.
The government-run craft industry system of Dadu and Shangdu, the two capitals of the Yuan Dynasty, was a process of producing, consuming and settling material culture brought in from various cultural spheres in the process of expansion and settlement of the Yuan Dynasty in their own way. Since the Yuan Dynasty did not last long compared to other dynasties, the system was not maintained for long. However, it is true that material culture and technology have already spread throughout society and later influenced China, Korea, and Japan.
The same was true for Won's iron craft production techniques and materials. In particular, colored iron from West Asia was produced and consumed in China with similar colors and properties, and Joseon made objects using iron colored close to black and expressed patterns through inlay. This is a phenomenon in which consumption and technology become indigenous through the process of exchange, and can be said to be a natural result of the process of transfer and settlement of material culture.
