解放後 韓國農業構造의 變動推移 : 農地改革前後를 통한 農地所有變動을 中心으로 = A Study on the Changes in the Agrarian Structure After the Korea Land Reform

This Paper aims to survey the changes in the agrarian structure which followed the implementation of the Korea land reform in 1950. But it is not my intention here to describe fully the Korea land reform. I will confine my analysis here to the changes in the agrarian structure after the land reform.
The Korea land reform initiated in 1950 resulted in a great change in agricultural structure, which had been historically formed between landowners and tenant farmers. The land reform played the most important role in disintegration of the feudalistic land-lord in Korea.
As a result of the reform, small farm holdings with less than 1.0 cheongbo increased from 74.5% in 1947 to 79.1% in 1953 of the total holdings. But they had been reduced to 64.2% of the total holdings in 1977. Thus the problem of small scale farms had not been improved remarkably.
The group of medium-sized holdings (from 1.0 cheongbo to 2.0 chenogbo) increased from 20.1% of the total number of holdings in 1955 to 25.1% in 1977. While their cultivated area rose from 36.9% of the total cultivated land in 1955 to 40.7% in 1977.
The group with 2.0∼3.0 cheongbo had been hardly changed. But the group of large farm holdings (3.0 cheongbo and over) showed a perceptible increase in farm area from 1.5% in 1955 to 6.3% in 1977 of the total cultivated land.
The reappearence to tenancy was widespread among both large landlords and the small absentee owners. According to the 1960 census data, the total area under tenancy constituted about 13.5% of the total cultivated land. And the area under tenancy increased 14.4% of the total in 1976.
