The purpose of this study was to investigate how Japanese learners' acquisition of "yōuda/mitaida(よ うだ/みたいだ)" is the same or different from that of native speakers, and how environmental factors are related to its use.
The results of the analysis are summarized and summarized as follows.
First, regardless of the learning environment, Japanese learners' use of "yōuda/mitaida" was biased toward "mitaida" and differed significantly from that of Japanese mother tongue speakers, who used more "yōuda" than "mitaida".
Second, although the use of "mitaida" was similar in both settings, the use of "yōuda" was higher in the JFL environment compared to the JSL environment.
Third, when analyzing the parts of speech attached to "yōuda/mitaida", there was no significant difference between Japanese learners and native speakers, and there was no significant difference by learning environment. However, when analyzing the use of "yōuda" according to the properties of nouns, it was found that "mitaida" was attached to concrete nouns and "yōuda" was attached to abstract nouns relatively frequently, and this trend was more evident in JFL learners.
Fourth, when analyzing the position of "yōuda/mitaida" in the sentence, there was no particular tendency for Japanese mother tongue speakers, but for Japanese learners, there was a relatively strong tendency to use "yōuda" in the non-predicate, and this tendency was more pronounced for JFL learners.
As a result of the above analysis and discussion, we can conclude that Japanese learners' acquisition of "yōuda/mitaida" involves a strategy of distinguishing between grammatical items based on formal factors such as the part of speech to which they are attached, the attributes of the noun to which they are attached, and their position in the sentence. We can also see that repeated use of "yōuda/mitaida" leads to the formation of a formalized form, or unit, and that this unit serves the function of distinguishing between grammatical items with similar semantic usage.
