光州地域의 環境騷音度에 관한 調査硏究 = A Studies on the Environmental Noise Level in the Kwangju Area

It is clear that noise is a significant hazard to public health.
Expect for the serious problem of hearing loss, noise affects the quantity and quality of physical and psychological stress, and sometimes, it can be associated with many of these disabilities and diseases, with include heart disease, high blood pressure, headache, fatigue and irritability.
The purpose of this study is to assess the actual state of ambient noise in the communities, designated as residential, semi-residential and commercial areas in Kwangju and, at the sometime, it is at empted to find the sources, characteristics of the noise and how the noise effect the residents. The study and survey was carried out at 7 sites in 3 areas communities in Kwangju area from May to November 1986, and the results were summarized as following ;
1. Average noise levels in dB(A) in terms of L_(50) , measured at selected residential and semiresidential areas which designed by Town planning Act, were showed as similar levels to the invironmental quality standards for noise in Korea.
2. The result we obtained by environmental Noise level of survey areas was much the same as division by town planning act.
The Noise level for commercial area was higher than any other areas.
Time variation during a day for semi-residential, commercial was traffic Noise, residential was Noise level of life and a passerby.
So these a showed the background Noise.
3. Up to 25m from the edge of main road, it showed phenomina of reduction in Noise level with distance as line source, while at the 50m it apperared as reduction of point source.
4. Majority of the residents nearby the main road complained the Noise from bus acceleration generating some symptoms of headache and discomfort while the large portion of residents at the 50m distance from it showed major complaints against motorcycle and horn because of shocking noise by disruption of sleeping and reading.
