초급 한국어 교재의 읽기 텍스트 분석-주제, 유형, 활동 중심으로- = A Study on Analysis of Reading Texts from Beginning Level Korean Reading Textbooks - Focusing on the topic, type of texts, and activities -

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the reading texts from beginning level Korean reading texts in terms of the topic, type of texts and activities to establish the basis of constructing reading texts and textbooks. The subjects of the analysis are 13 kinds including 4 developed by national institutions and 9 by university institutions that consist of 6 volumes. 540 reading texts are among the total 38 volumes of beginning level reading textbooks. The criteria for analyzing topic and type of tests are based on 4 steps from Korean language standard model which is globally in common use, and for analyzing reading activities, criteria from Lee Hae Young(2001:223-228) are used. Analysis shows that no textbook fulfilled all three aspects; topic, type of texts, reading activities.
In terms of the topic of reading texts, only three kinds, < Korean for Married Immigrants > and < B >, < I >, covered all 12 categories. Among 12 topic categories, 4 topics; daily life, personal information, leisure and entertainment, interpersonal relationship appeared in all 13 kinds of textbooks, and the significant fact is that the topics which are essential for beginning level such as shopping, food and beverage, health, climate, transportation are not reflected in the reading texts. More detailed and elaborated plan is needed for selecting topics of reading texts.
The analysis of text type shows considerable differences between textbooks and the way they organize the text does not seem like they went through sufficient discussion. The way of organizing texts as well as diversifying text types needs to be considered in various ways such as combining spoken and written language form and cartoon or speech bubble kind of form, since it can positively affect learning efficiency and making students get interested if presented diversely.
As for the reading activities, the analysis goes through three phases; pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading. Only 3 kinds show some structure among three phases, yet, they lack consistency and repetition over all lessons. Pre-reading activities can help learners activate their schema and guide them directly to the lesson itself, and post-reading activities are also essential in that they make learners check their comprehension, monitor their learning and internalize what they have learned.
