조선초기 경관 무관직 개편 -지휘 통솔 편제의 변화와 관련하여- = Reform of the Central Post in Military Officers in Early Joseon Dynasty

In this thesis, we look into how the central post in military officer in early Joseon dynasty was reformed related to the changes in the civil and military officer system and the restructuring of the order system. The servant and military system enacted right after the Joseon dynasty was founded mostly succeeded that of Goryeo dynasty. This was very simple compared to the civil servant system. It meant that the activities and function of the military field taken by the military ranks was not that complex comparatively. If we look into the operating system of the military ranks, which within the organization was composed to coincide in form, that is to state the ranks and appointments simultaneously. When one is appointed as a rank, this means that one is to take the role of commander, vice commander, aid of a certain troop simultaneously. However, at the end of Goryeo dynasty, as the chaos of reign system hit the peak, the rank system operation also threw into turmoil. Furthermore, in the army, various ranks and appointments were needed along with commanders andaids. Accordingly, it was hard to cover with the old system. At last, the reformation started. However, it was not able to bring satisfying results. Even if it had got results, the principle of coinciding ranks and roles, appointments and other things was very hard to establish. Under a deepening phenomenon of social division, various factors were added to the military ranks as well. Accordingly, it was hard to cover it with the system that was based on coinciding state. With the foundation of Joseon dynasty, the central military rank system was reformed. It’s process was composed of the reform of the military rank system and the military policy and the restructuring of the leading ordering system related to it. Going through several stages, the imbalance of the military ranks with the civil ranks was relieved in terms of its forms. In detail, all ranks from Jung 3 pum(正三品) to Jong 9 pum(從九品) were set as actual ranks. At the same time, the separation process of the ranks, role, appointments, etc., was settled. This also affected the leading and ordering system, thusthe previous unilateral and stiff system was resolved and was able to react on a flexible base. Through those efforts, it can be said that the military ranks progressed in terms of the system or operation, compared to the ones of previous stage. Wherein we can find their meaning.
