참여형 디지털 아카이브로의 전환을 위한 참여도 지표 연구 : 박물관 디지털 아카이브를 중심으로

This study aims to analyze user engagement metrics for transitioning museum digital archives into participatory platforms and to propose strategies for revitalizing digital archives. Modern digital archives have progressed beyond their traditional roles of record collection and preservation to serve as key mediators for the reproduction and utilization of archival value. However, most museum digital archives remain limited to passive functions such as information browsing and searching, lacking mechanisms to effectively foster active user participation and collaborative content production.
To address these limitations, this study highlights the necessity of transitioning museum digital archives into participatory platforms and introduces a systematic framework for user engagement. Through an analysis of domestic and international cases, the study identifies current challenges and develops specific strategies for participatory transformation. Domestic examples include the e-Museum of the National Museum of Korea and the Seoul Museum of Art’s Archive, while international cases feature Europeana, a leading European digital cultural heritage platform, and Google Arts & Culture, renowned for its technology-driven participatory content initiatives. The analysis reveals that domestic museum digital archives primarily focus on information provision and exploration, with inadequate support for active user participation and collaborative content creation. Additionally, a lack of interactive communication channels and content creation tools limits the ability to sustain long-term and in-depth user engagement.
Based on these findings, the study proposes the following strategies for revitalizing museum digital archives: First, it is crucial to enhance participation-driven content creation features, enabling users to actively generate and contribute content, thereby fostering diverse interpretations and the reproduction of archival value. Second, interactive features that promote communication and collaboration among users should be strengthened to create an environment conducive to sharing and cooperation. Third, motivational strategies must be implemented to ensure sustained user engagement, such as visualizing user activities and introducing recognition or reward systems that encourage continuous participation.
This study offers practical strategies for transforming museum digital archives from mere information providers into participatory platforms where users actively generate and share records. By systematically evaluating domestic and international cases, it establishes a foundation for museum digital archives to develop into inclusive and sustainable record information services. Participatory digital archives will play an essential role in generating new value and enhancing the social significance of records through active user engagement and collaborative content creation.
