피학적 성격 내담자에 대한 정신분석적 사례연구 = The Psychoanalytic Case Study about the Client with Masochistic Personality

This study is a single case study which investigates the psychoanalytic counseling process about the client with masochistic personality and reveals the therapeutic factor. First of all, the study examines psychoanalytic theories and discussions about masochistic personality from traditional to modern perspective, and applies to the case and analyzes it thoroughly. Hereby, research questions are about: first, how the psychoanalysis approached a masochistic personality so far and second, how the masochistic personality is transformed through the psychoanalytic counseling and what is cured. To investigate questions, the study used the qualitative case study method which examines and analyzes a counseling relationship that is revealed in one case. A qualitative case study has been inherited from the tradition of psychoanalytic studies, and it is one of research methodologies which are actively used until now. In the western society, discussions on the masochistic character have been continuously conducted by several scholars from Freud to modern psychoanalysis. Yet, this study is valuable as it is difficult to find a domsetic psychoanalytic case study which has a same context. Moreover, as a single case, this study is significant as it closely discusses how the intersubjective counseling relationship emphasized in modern psychoanaylsis works in the client trasformation process. The conclusion of the study informs that a formation of a masochistic personality is related to a sociocultural environment and it might affect Korean oldest daughters. Also, it clearly notes that especially for masochistic client, forming intersubjective relationship should be premised as it is the most essential treatment factor.
