대명사의 대체 표현 = Replacement Expressions of Pronouns

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Korean, names, kinship, title words, and personal nouns are often used instead of pronouns. This article examines the types and functions of replacement expressions used in place of pronouns.
Pronouns have a person indication function that refers to conversation participants or people in speech, and pronouns replacement expressions also have such a function. In the name replacement expression, the honorific word is made by attaching the dependent noun ‘nim, ssi’ to the name. The ordinary word is made by adding vocative case marker ‘a/ya’ to its name. The low word is made by attaching the dependent noun ‘nom’ to its name. The speaker may use his or her name as the first person, the listener’s name as the second person, and the third person’s name as the third person. The kinship term has separate honorific, ordinary, and low word. Parents use ‘emma and appa’ as the first person, and their children use it as the second or third person.
In the title word, the honorific is made by attaching the dependent noun ‘nim’ to the title, and the lower word is made by adding ‘nom’ to the title. The honorifics are mainly used in the second and third person. Personal nouns such as ‘people, humans, friends and guys’ can also replace pronouns. The personal noun ‘people’ is used not only in the first, second, and third person, but also in indefinite and interrogative form. ‘One people’ emphasizes the preceding pronoun as the meaning of the auxiliary particle ‘man’, and ‘two people’ replace the second or third person plural pronoun.
The address form is a word that calls the other person directly. The reference form refers to a person in the first, second, and third person. At the beginning of the conversation, the speaker uses the call form of the [call] function to attract the listener’s attention. When the speaker recognizes the listener who appeared in the conversation, he or she uses a call form for the [greetings] function. When the speaker asks the listener a question or asks for an action, he or she uses the call form of the [request] function.
The honorific address form functions as a [polite word] to express the speaker’s politeness to the listener. The lower address form functions as a [criticism] to scold or rebuke listeners. The address form is also used at the end of speech as a [request] function of asking for the consent of the listener or requesting the listener’s action. The address form used in the middle of the speech functions as a [hedge].
