태권도 수련을 통한 기독교 선교접근 방법 연구 = (A)study on methods for christian missionary work through Taekwondo training

The purpose of this research was to promote understanding of tentmaking mission in order to accomplish what Jesus demands from the world, and also to present a strategy required for this mission, while missionary work through Taekwondo have had a great influence on tentmaking mission arriving in the 21st century, and this has called Taekwondo players or devotees for the purpose of such mission. For an effective Taekwondo ministry, there is a necessity to pursue further improvements in public ministry through Taekwondo. That is, taking up Jesus’ ministry of preaching is essential rather than Taekwondo. Therefore, to achieve this, a passion of tentmaking mission has been greatly flaring up in the 21st century. At this point of time when Taekwondo, one of the most popular sports in the world, is stretching out to the overseas countries, there must be numerous ways to answer the question such as, what we, Koreans, should inculcate in the mind of foreigners through this cultural export. In this study, however, the writer intended to discuss how Taekwondo missionaries should perform their missionary work with what consciousness on public ministry. The reality is that Taekwondo ministry is a strange concept yet. This is because Taekwondo was originated from Oriental martial arts, and many a today’s research on Taekwondo discussed Taekwondo, putting emphasis on its characteristics as a martial art. Indeed, Taekwondo ministry still remains in a primary stage. Only several colleges have established the department of Taekwondo ministry recently. And so, it is considered that there are not many articles and research papers in this respect. Examples of research papers in this area probably are Sim Chang-su’s “World Evangelization through Taekwondo” and “ A Study on Ministry Strategy through Taekwondo as Tentmaking Mission” written by Yun Seung-beom. In this paper, the writer aimed to exhibit a required vision for the locale of ministry at this moment by joining Taekwondo with ministry making best use of the present status of Taekwondo and its characteristics as a sport, having identified the trend of missionary work in respect of the concept of public ministry and of theology, and also having identified the intrinsic concept of the ministry in conjunction with specific meaning of Taekwondo ministry and its theological possibility. When closely examining such a vision of Taekwondo, we could fathom the depth of God’s works, which have been trimmed and prepared for a long period of time, as an instrument of ministry through such a dynamic and historic stream. God has spread Taekwondo swiftly throughout the world with its worldwide reputation in spite of its short history, and also showed us his enthusiasm so much as to establish the status of Korea’s Taekwondo toward the whole world firmly along with economic developments, etc. of Korea. In spite of these blessings of God, the writer feels regret that there are many different motives involved in the consciousness of missionaries who dream to forge ahead into the global community through Taekwondo, and that their missionary works have not been performed based on profound understanding of historical consciousness. It’s worrisome that there are some Taekwondo instructors who pursue only their personal profits and success, not for the glory of God, who run into the mission place having disguised themselves under a pretext of missionary work for the purpose of satisfying their own desires. In addition, the writer is pretty anxious that, because of lowering age bracket of the missionary, they are dispatching to the locale of ministry without proper training for missionary works, and education on required concepts and mindset. Taekwondo brings abundant fruits and good effects to the site of ministry. Our mission is like a marathon that should be continued until the coming of Jesus. Although numbers of missionaries have advanced to many countries, and there are successful results corresponding to its reputation to an extent, it is required to establish a strategy for missionary works as well as ministerial consciousness of Taekwondo from the perspective of right bible education and of Christian mission. The writer should like to claim that this paper is a guideline for ministry strategy and ministerial consciousness of workers not only for God’s people who perform missionary works in the site of ministry through Taekwondo, but also the numerous future missionaries who will be sent to the mission place in forthcoming years in order to implement what Jesus demands from the world, and also to achieve unlimited development of Taekwondo missionaries and their clear and penetrating sense of mission. In this age of ministry, we are not able to draw a framework yet for tentmaking mission in a specific manner. Along this line, the writer has determined to write this article containing topics such as, how tentmaking mission in a form of the ministry using the profession of Taekwondo has been developed following through the histories thereof, and what type of model we have, and what will be the right strategy for Taekwondo ministry based on such models. And it is considered that recognition of tentmaking mission is necessary. One of the long cherished wishes of the writer is to study ministry strategy through clear recognition of public ministry of missionary based on biblical teaching, and is to be used as humble worker in God’s field. As a conclusion, the strategy of Taekwondo ministry comprises its superiority and complements thereof, detailed methods to spread missionary works, and a creative access method to the mission site, which has been actually devised by Taekwondo missionaries having distinguished value in the process of forming a contact point. Then such a strategy shall fit in with Taekwondo ministry.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 태권도 선교가 21세기에 들어오면서 전문인 선교가 가장 커다란 선교에 한국의 태권도인을 부르셨고, 주님의 지상명령 성취를 이루기위해 전문인 선교에 대한 이해와 필요성 전략을 제시하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 효과적 태권도선교를 위하여 지금의 태권도 사역에 있어서 개선점이 필요하다. 태권도보다는 말씀 사역이 필수적이다. 그래서 이를 위해서 21세기에는 전문인 선교가 가장 커다란 선교의 불길이 이루어지고 있다. 세계의 인기 있는 스포츠 태권도가 해외로 뻗어가는 현 시점에서 이러한 문화적 수출을 통하여 한국인들은 해외에 무엇을 심어줄 것 인가의 물음에 답할 수 있는 방향은 무수히 많을 것이나 본 연구에서는 태권도선교사들의 선교의식에 대하여 어떠한 의식을 가지고 어떻게 선교 할 것 인가가 대하여 논의하고자 한다.
태권도 선교란 아직 낮선 개념일 수밖에 없는 실정이다. 태권도가 본래 동양적 무도에서 출발한 무도였고 오늘날의 태권도에 대한 연구도 그 무도로서의 성격에 대하여 논의한 것이 많기 때문이다. 태권도 선교학과라는 것도 몇몇 대학에서 기독교학과의 관련지어 학과의 설치된 초기 단계여서 이에 대한 논문도 그리 많지 않을 것으로 여겨지는 것이다.
이 방면의 연구 논문으로 표본이 될 많은 것으로 심창수 "태권도를 통한 세계복음화와 윤승범의 전문인 선교로서 태권도를 통한 선교전략의 연구가 있다. 이 논문에서는 선교의 개념과 신학적으로 보는 선교의 동향을 밝히고 우리나라의 태권도 선교의 구체적 의의와 신학적 가능성에 대하여 그 개념을 선교의 본질적 개념을 밝히고 태권도의 위상과 운동으로서의 특성을 통해 이를 선교의 접합함으로써 지금 현재 선교현장에서필요한 비전을 보여주려고 한다.
이러한 태권도 비전을 가만히 살펴보면 그 역동성과 역사적 흐름을 통해 선교의 도구로 오랫동안 준비하시고 다듬어 오신 하나님의 손길을 깊이 들여다 볼 수 있다. 짧은 역사 속에서도 하나님께서 발 빠르게 세계적인 명성과 함께 태권도를 세계적으로 보급하셨고, 그와 때를 같이하는 한국의 경제성장등이 세계를 향한 한국 태권도의 위상을 견고하게 세우시는 열심을 보여주셨다. 이러한 감사에도 불구하고 한쪽에 많은 아쉬움은 태권도를 통해 세계를 꿈꾸는 선교사들의 의식의 여러 부분이 바른 동기와 역사의식 속에 전개 되고 있지 않음을 보게 되어 안타까운 심정이다. 자칫 자신의 욕망을 채우기 위해 선교라는 포장으로 자신을 감싸고 선교지에 뛰어들어 하나님의 영광이 아닌 자신의 이익과 성공을 위해 살아가는 사범들도 있기 때문이다. 또한 연령대가 낮아짐으로 인해 선교의식이나 바른 선교훈련이 이루어지지 않고 현장으로 나가는 안타까움이
크다. 태권도가 현장에서 많은 열매와 효과를 타나낸다. 선교는 주님오실 때까지 이루어져야 하는 마라톤과 같은 것이다. 현재 많은 나라에 선교사들이 진출하고 어느 정도 그 명성에 맞는 결과 들이 나올지라도 바른 성경교육과 선 교적 차원에서 태권도의 선교의식과 선교의 전략이 정립되어야 할 것이다. 본 논문은 21세기 태권도 선교사들이 무한한 발전과 투철한 사명감을 주님의 명령을 바르게 수행하기 위해 현재 태권도를 통해 선교지역속에 사역하고 있는 하나님의 사람뿐만 아니라 앞으로 사역지로 서게 될 수많은 미래 선교사들을 위한 선교의식과 선교전략의 지침이라고 할 수 있다. 전문인 선교시대에 우린 구체적으로 전문인 선교의 그림을 그리고 있지 못한다. 태권도가 전문인 선교로서 그 동안 역사를 통해 전문인 선교가 어떻게 발전했으며 우리에겐 어떤 모델이 있고 그 모델을 교훈 삼아 앞으로 태권도선교 전략을 바르게 마음으로 논문을 쓰게 되었다. 그래서 전문인 선교에 대한 선교의식이 필요하다고 본다. 오랜 시간 동안 주저함 없이 가절한 바람은 하나님의 섭리가운데 성경가적이며 선교사의 선교의식을 통해서 선교전략을 지속적으로 연구하고 하나님의 일꾼들이 쓰이길 바라는 것으로 소망해 본다. 태권도 선교전략은 우수성과 보완점 그리고 구체적인 선교전략방법, 선교현장에서의 태권도 선교사들이 실제적 선교전략이 창의적 접근방법과 접촉점 형성에 뛰어난 가치를 갖고 있는 선교전략이 바로 태권도 선교임을 결론지어 본 연구를 마무리 하였다.
