묘제를 통해 본 고조선문화의 정체성과 지역성 고찰 -방법론적 검토를 중심으로- = A Study of Identity and Regionality of Gojoseon Culture Through Tomb Systems

This article comprehensively examines the changes in tomb systems from the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age in Northeast China and the Korean Peninsula to comprehensively examine the recent controversial issues of the nature of dolmen societies and regionality across the Liaodong and Northern Korean regions. Along with this, a methodological review of the identity and formation process of Gojoseon culture was conducted. Initially, dolmen culture was generated with the development of intensive farming and functioned as a kind of belief system (ancestor worship/ religion on founding fathers). Gradually, it spread to the surrounding areas and became localized, and then entered the Lute-shaped Bronze Sword Culture Period, where competition with the surrounding societies intensified, forming a common ideology and identity. As a result, ties between dolmen societies with similar identities and belief systems were strengthened, and a network of dolmen societies over the regions ranged from Liaodong to West North Korea was formed around the 9th~8th century B.C. Later, around the 7th~6th centuries B.C, the political system (shamanic belief system) of the Liaoxi region expanded to the Liaodong region, forming the Zhengjiawazi-type culture. During this period, a confederation-style politicalentity was formed around the Zhengjiawazi-type culture based on the advanced culture of the time (Bronze Age culture), which developed into a complex chiefdom society and was recognized as Gojoseon by the surrounding world. If we admit the force that led the political entity called Gojoseon at that time as the Zhengjiawazi-type, the dolmen societies in the regions ranged from Liaodong to West North Korea were the main founding members of Gojoseon and grew together as a part of the regional (complex) society subordinated to such an early state. In conclusion, it can be seen that the identity of Gojoseon culture was based on the socio-cultural network established in the regions ranged from Liaodong to West North Korea and grew together under the leadership of the advanced Bronze Ageculture that expanded in the Liaoxi region.
